building an engine options( fairly Long)

I havn't seen much in the archives about this. I even checked out corral.net but the searches I came across were mainly dealing with lots of power or s/c on the 4.6's. so I didn't find anything useful. so here it is. I want more power but for a daily driver i don't want crazy power so that stuff breaks all the time. I figure upwards of 300rwhp, possibly closer to 350-400 rwhp.

I have 2 engines, 1 in the back yard with 150k miles on the clock.. 1 in my car that now won't turn over so now since I got it back from my shop looking at it. I'm gonna see if the engine is shot but for this post lets assume its shot. what should I do for another engine? here are some of my thoughts

1. Take the engine in the back yard and get it re-worked, new internals, port and polish the heads with bigger valves and cams maybe get a cobra intake or keep the stock one for now. I've also been looking into getting it bored out or stroked( not sure what the difference is) to make it a 302 with better pistons. I got a $3600 price for just redoing the bottom end w/o any headwork heads would probally be somewhere around $1500 if not more to get them redone. and of course while this is being done I would be getting midlenght headers. I'm not sure about this tho, mainly cause its going to be alot of money going into an engine with so many miles. I am not sure if it'd be like a new engine, so how realiable would this setup be for a daily driver? also how much power over the stock mark engine would I be making, would it be worth it?

2. second option would be getting a 98 cobra engine for around 4 grand with a 36k mile warranty from ford. but thats like the same engine as the marks just better internals and I figure if i'm spending so much money I want to have a much better engine than the one i'm replacing, not just a few ponys more. then again most of you would say you can just throw a s/c on it, which would be awsome... but the fact that I'd be getting a s/c way way in the future. maybe a year, maybe 2 maybe 4-5 years from now maybe never, who knows what my money situation will be like then. so no plans for a s/c anytime soon.

3. would be to sell this car, drive in my pos dodge and get out from being in debt so I can buy an audi in a year or 2. of all the cars being made audis are the only cars that really stand out to me. I hate the designs of fords and chevys and most other brands(certain cars excluded)

I am wondering what you all think, I am hoping i can get a bunch of responses here so I can look further into this. not that it matters cause i won't be doing anything till spring but this is a starting point. thanks

Stock rebuild and throw an Eaton or Kenne Bell on it or find a 03/04 Cobra Engine :9

I read your other post, still wondering what went wrong with your engine?

RE: building an engine options( fairly Long)

i just realized another thing i've been thinking. I kinda wanna do as much as I can on all motor before i throw boost on. I still havn;'t gotten my mark in the 13's on all motor and thats been my goal for like 3 years now.. :(

RE: building an engine options( fairly Long)

I'd go with forged internals, Fox Lake heads milled for about 13 to 1 compression, Cobra intake, new cams, ART long tube headers and SCT tune. That ought to get you a reliable, streetable car that gets 300 to 350 rwhp.

13 to 1 might be pushing it on pump gas in some areas.

Look for a company that will sell you a shortblock for a good price. www.vtengines.com seems to have some nice options but i have never dealt with them. For 7 grand they have a complete longblock with oversize valves and cams and everything, all forged. Looks from the website like it comes with a forged crank and everything, but they might want a cobra crank as a core. They definitely want the block and heads as a core. For 9 grand you can get the bored and stroked version. Or for 4 grand you can get a forged shortblock, and you can just leave the heads stock.

You can build a really nice, high HP NA engine and still have it be perfectly streetable and reliable. You just have to pick the right gears, stall, intake setup, and cams to make it how you want.

RE: building an engine options( fairly Long)

I have the gears and stall for now, i just got them so to be honist i don't wanna change them now withthe money I just put into it. I'll look at those sites later but I really didn't want to get a new block if I already have a engine sitting in my back yard, figure it may be cheaper but when I get more time i will look at those 2 links. thanks for those.

RE: building an engine options( fairly Long)

That's not for a new block, you send them your block or block and heads, or block and crank, depending on what you're getting, and they build you a motor, and i think it even has a warranty.

There are other companies that will have similar deals. That's just one that i've heard of from other sites.

I would give certain body parts for a 03/04 cobra motor for about 5g's. The first one I bought was 7k in may of last year and the one I'm looking at now is about the same with more miles than my first one.

RE: building an engine options( fairly Long)

Go with VT engines or Hensler racing. Livernois does good work as well. Trust me on this, I have had 3 engines built. Go with one of these guys. Both Hensler and VT have vast knowledge about Big bore kits, while VT has even more knowledge about stroked engines.
