Buying 98 Transmission

Ok without fighting with anyone can I ask a simple question. I am getting a new 98 transmission, but idk if it was from a mark viii. Goes to a 4.6L (single cam 16 valve engine) . Will this bolt up to mine? It looks like mine and its a 4R70W . I didnt buy it because idk if first will go to 50 mph like our mark viii's transmissions do. Can I get a 98 transmission say to a grand marqui or crown vic or pickup truck? Will it bolt up and be the same?

the 4WD trucks won't bolt up for sure.

Certain Crown Vics had longer "end shafts" i think.

But Rustangs and Most Crown vics should bolt up I believe.

98 mustangs still have a weak trans. Most of the ford vehicles got upgraded trans in 99 except mark viii which was 98.If I was you I'd not get another weak trans.

so i can get lets say a 2000 f 150 2 wheel drive transmission and it will bolt up and be more reliable?

ALSO - My 93 wont go in 3rd or o/d but 1st and 2nd fine , i have a new transmission filter, and fluid - should i try to change the fluid to see if i can get atleast 3rd back ? Has that ever worked? Or should i re-capture the fluid and just replace the filter? 1st and 2nd gear are really strong i can slide 2nd at 55mph so could it be just a clogged pump/fluid/filter ??

The loss of 3rd and 4th are indicators that the trans is gone. Don't waste money and time by putting good fluid/filter into a shot transmission.

Ive heard of people fixing them though with a filter and tranny change. In my heart i think its bad and even IF i do get it to go in 3rd. I already have the parts so it cost me no money.

ALSO - The fluid looks waay overfull, could this also cause this problem? I already changed the radiator so i flushed the lines real good.

Yes i am, LOL !! And i can see its past the top of the stick and i can see it on the metal part of the dipstick, quite a bit high actually...

I've heard of fluid changes fixing shudder issues and occasional shifting problems but never heard of a fluid change bringing back missing gears.

What about it being super over full ? Could that cause it? idk, like i said in my heart i know im changing it.. but i was under there and looking at it all... gas tank, driveshaft, every single bolt, crossmember and worse of all the exhaust.... damn i dont look forward to that.

Not to mention it looks like at the moment it may be done in my yard.. on ramps... ugh !

Transmission being too full won't cause non shifting problems... I think usually it causes the fluid to come out the dip stick tube and cause a mess or make the shifts super super soft and nasty.

I find it's easier to check the trans fluid when it's cold.
There is a line on the dipstick that says cold.

bill.... I just did that... and its still way over the top of the plastic dipstick, it shows level on the metal part of the dipstick

-BTW bill, that White LSC is absolutely GORGEOUS !!!!! The white 2nd Gen LSC's always look the best

haha ON ! idk wtf it would look like if it were off... hell it might be right there at the dipstick !!

I bet it started acting up and some moron just said "oh its low" and poured 5 quarts of autozone atf
