Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

Sigh... I was coming home at night, and it has been raining for over a week now. I took a familiar exit on the highway at approximately 35mph the posted limit... Hit a giant patch of water that collected due to the recent storms... rear end started spinning out of control... and ended up hitting a curb with my rear right wheel first and then my front wheel. Crazy part is, when I hit the curb I was going probably only 10 or 5 mph, but the car was sliding sideways so it was bad news .

Car sustained some pretty good damage from the accident.
I will need a New Rear Wheel/Tire
Differential??
Axle broke
New shock
I think the rear sway bar is gone.
Will need new rear lower control arm??
And who knows what else. I haven't gotten an estimate yet... but judge by yourself I took some pics .
If you guys can let me know if you see anything else that could need replacing that would be great.
Also if anyone has an approximate list prices on all the mechanical parts I've listed that would be really helpful in case I'm going to have to dispute it with my insurance.
This year got to a really really bad start. Not to mention I got pulled over 2x in the last 2 weeks. Once for tints and once for a blown out licence plate bulb.

Oh Max! Your new rims!

I'm so sorry to hear about that. Good luck.

RE: Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

Max, that sucks big time, but that stuff can be replaced, on the positive side no one got hurt.

RE: Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

OMG!

That was no glancing blow! Did you end up on the curb? Looks like the LCA bought it as well. I can't believe that axle let loose like that. It's hard to say about the differential... but I would get a good estimate from someone that would know the suspension and driveline. That may mean a dealer. I would suspect the hub as well. So sad. ;(

Good luck getting it fixed back and glad to hear you were not harmed.

RE: Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

OUCH! ;( Glad you are okay Max. Other than the obvious repairs, I am sure the alignment shop can let you know what needs repair. Hope this is the end of your bad luck!

RE: Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

Yup the rear right wheel ended up on the curb and so did part of the front right wheel. So far the car is at some kind of "Ok" shop but they will use original Ford Parts to fix the car. Since i've seen the ford delivery truck come buy for others at the shop, not sure if I can work out to have the car towed to a different location. So if anyone knows a good shop around the "Mountain View, Palo Alto" area let me know.
There are two more bad news.
1. The car looks like it is sitting too high in the back (Height sensor probably took a dump).
2. The car wouldn't start afterwards, i'm guessing that is due to the fuel pump shut off switch.

RE: Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

Sounds like the height sensor may have become disconnected and yes, most likely the inertia switch went off shutting down the fuel. I think a 4 wheel alignment goes without saying.

The manual...

Component Replacement

CAUTION:
Rear suspension fasteners are important parts because they could affect the performance of vital components and systems and/or could result in major service expense. They must be replaced with the same part number or with an equivalent part if replacement becomes necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to ensure proper retention of this part.

The following components may be replaced as either an assembly or individually:

~ Lower rear suspension arm and bushing (5500) and the rear suspension arm and bushing must be replaced as assemblies.

~ Rear suspension compensator link (5A972) may be replaced individually.

~ Air rear spring (5560) may be replaced individually.

~ Rear stabilizer bar (5A772) may be replaced individually.

~ Rear wheel knuckle (5A969), rear wheel bearing (1225) and rear hub (1109) may be replaced individually.

If you need a new swaybar, maybe you should replace it with a bigger one? That's something I've always wanted to upgrade on my car, but always forget about.

I am so sorry to hear about the damage to your car. I did a 360 degree spin out in the rain about a month ago in my Mark VIII. I was incredibly lucky - no damage to my car. I hope you can get yours fixed.

Sorry to hear about your ride man, always sucks to be in that type of situation.

RE: Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

Man, got your PM before I read this. If you need parts, I can have them to you soon. i will have the entire rear sub assembly for sale including diffrential, A-arms, etc. Let me know if you need them, but try to push your insurance company for new parts.

RE: Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

Sorry to hear about your all of your bad luck. It will all be fixed before you know it....

RE: Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

Thanks for the kind words guys. Yea I hope that I will have my mark up and running pretty soon. I'm trying to set up a meeting with the adjustor tomorrow. According to the shop they are supposed to use new parts to fix whatever is wrong, but I just want to make sure it is done right. I will know more by tomorrow. Sure hope it is not totaled though although i guess that won't matter much. I just hate the fact that my insurance is saying that it is all or nothing, in other words they fix everything or nothing. Since I have two new tires around I just wanted the shop to put those on instead of paying my $500 deductible and having them buy 2 new Michelin pilot sports.

RE: Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

Let them fix everything. If they put two new tires on it, you can always swap your old ones on later, and have two spares.

RE: Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

Sorry to see that you are having such bad luck Max. If it is totaled there are others out there with low mileage for reasonable dollars.
"If it weren't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all" ... so the saying goes. You've had too much bad luck. I hope things work out to your advantage.

RE: Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

Max...I missed this thread...I had no idea you did a tank-slapper.

That really blows...I LOVE that car...but thank God you're ok.

let me know what I can do to help. The old 95 we sold to that kid is going to Tommy as a "parts car"...the back end suspension is fine, and has 60k on it, so if you need parts, I can talk to Tommy...not sure if he wants to keep it a "roller" for a while...if we strip rear end susp...it isnt a roller.

anyway...you know where to find me.

Insurance should come through for you...and I would opt for a new sway bar as well. BTW, see if the shop can order you those FAT axles from a T-Bird SC...if they are available...

of course, you would have to know the shop guys to get them to pull strings...maybe just get it fixed, and get it back.

sorry buddy.

RE: Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

Thanks Craig I appreciate it, I was debating whether I should just get a complete rear end and swap it in. But then there is still a question about the wheel/wheels so i decided to let the insurance pay me since the repair would probably run over 1k.
Today I'm talking with the estimator... they are surely taking their time. It has been more than 4 days since I reported it and they haven't had the estimator check out the car. I'm going to post more details later.

RE: Ca storms took their toll, accident pics (Not for the faint heart)

My condolences on your loss and recent police trouble. It happens.:(
