Carlisle 2010-Banquet Plans and suggestions

IMO I think this choice is very expensive for what they offer.

The prices on the menu are irrelevant as they are entree prices only.

The prices listed for the banquet include the entire meal including desert, taxes, gratuity and coffee/tea.

Next time you pay your tab at any eating establishment, compare your final bill including tax and tip to your entree's menu price.

Let us agree to disagree and move on to more constructive discussion please.

Yeah, the thing is we can't bring outside food/drink, just like any restaurant. It's a shame we can't find you a kitchen. ;) Maybe the late night crew can find some locals to offer one up.

Let me just tell you how if this was a hotel we were never going to be back at, we’d get you in that kitchen cooking up a storm... :D

Well, it would be a possibility to do that in someone's room. It's something we can think about, and if there's someone who would be ready early, it might work. It could possibly be set up by the parking garage, too. Logistics of set up and clean up could be an issue... this is more for those who are prepared before 7:30. Me, I'm pushing it to make 7:30 after a day at the fairgrounds. :p

The parking garage is public, which was part of the problem with our birthday party on the roof, although I’m sure the open containers didn’t help :D

The banquet really can’t start that early, although it’s not like we have that far to go, but it is really nice to have a chance to get back from the show field, have a drink, park the car, have a drink, get back to the room, have a drink, take a shower and have a drink, then have another drink, walk down to the elevator, have a drink, go down to the patio and start drinking :D

Well, here's another thing - we want to make this affordable for those who don't have a lot of extra money to spare for something like this. The added benefit to this location as I see it is that those who choose not to join for the meal will still be able to easily join us for awards and after dinner socializing.

We have everyone from kids to those retired on fixed incomes and all in-between who are a part of our club, and we want to be able to include as many people as possible.

People could join us for the entire time even if they choose not to eat with us, maybe we could give away a few meals?

Normally, I just go with the flow on these things, and that's my plan here as well. Here are my own thoughts:

If the meal is in the large open area by the bar, will we offend, or otherwise bother the staff at the reception desk? this seems inevitable, but entertaining.

+1 on the Yuengling. I'm in, wether it's pitchers or kegs (heh.. plural)

other random thoughts that came up while typing this:
We could totally do a "fondue party" themed tent.. sterno fondue pots, and hang some crappy paper light fixtures. presto! oh, yes. I could bring the cheese curds.

random thought #2
The trunk of the Saxillac contains thee kegs of beer. One full, the other two 1/4 empty. If Joe leaves the Carlisle showgrounds at 6:48pm, and travels the 2.4 miles to the hotel's front sidewalk at 58 mph, how many 12oz glasses of foam will need to be thrown out before the beer once again starts flowing?

Ok, once the “evening” staff is on board… we’re set, cause I can talk them into letting us do anything. They said it was ok to bring their patio furniture up to the top of the garage... :D

I’m all for the kegs, yeah, I added the “s”... and I’m sure you could put them in the trunk of the Caddy, but let’s keep our fingers crossed that maybe, just maybe I’ll be driving my MK8 by them.
Are we getting the keg from the hotel?
Can we bring it/them places?
BTW, the last LOD meet where kegs were involved, I believe phone books were burned :D

Fondue sounds fun because I know us, and we can manage to add that element of danger to pretty much anything we do :D

IMO the sunny side whatever that place was called was two years too many... the food was not that great, it never came out together nor in the correct order, they couldn’t handle our group, the drinks were a joke, and we were packed in there (I heard some people showed up and then left, or something?), and we couldn’t stay there as long as we wanted. Even if we wind up inside at the hotel, there is plenty of space, we’re set down below the level of the front desk and foyer. Even if the food turns out to be equally mediocre, if it comes out all at once and it’s hot, they win. Plus at 2 meals $72.40 I could spend another 57.60 on drinks just to equal my sunny whatever bill.

If it turns out poorly, we’ll figure something else out for the following year.

I guess burnouts will be in the parking garage?
We should find out when the parking guy is working and if need be, get the hotel to give us extra parking tags... :D

:D -J

I doubt we can take the kegs with us places, and if there's a deposit on them, I don't want to have to give that up. ;)

Yes, if there are people who want to come to the banquet but the meal is too expensive, I know our club and its members will find a way to make sure everyone can attend and be fed. That's how we roll.

On a side note, I STILL can't get ahold of the guy I need to talk to for Friday night dinner plans, but I'm still working on it.

If you're thinking of the Market Cross Pub ask for Liz, she was very helpful to us this past weekend when we grew from 10 to 30+

No, we're trying to book Gingerbread Man. Better food, better prices, more room.

You gotta get with the local lingo...

"G-Man" is what the locals affectionately call it. :D

Update on Friday night dinner: Finally got ahold again of the owner of the G-man. He said I cannot reserve this far ahead of time and wants me to call about 2 months prior to the event. But after Justin and I had a long talk with the bartender and a manager there, and scoped it out, we really think this could be a great place for our Friday dinner. It would be off the menu and separate checks, in the front area of the restaurant.

Don't they also have a new bar/restaurant section to the left (facing from the street?)

Yes, that's smaller and it's the smoking area and has pool tables and such. That was also kinda the thought with G-man, that people may be interested in heading over there after the meal. Or, it's close to the hotel and we can just party like we usually do outside or something.

I wonder if they just have small pool tables - I didn't know they had any.

UPDATE:

We have been given the banquet room for free! So our event will be held in there. Now, do we want a cash bar ($300 minimum or there will be a bartender fee - though I don't see us as a group not meeting a 300 minimum ;) ) or a keg(s) of Yuengling for $125/half bbl or 90 for a 1/4?

I still have to call the G-man and see whether they're going to set us up for Friday night or not. And talk to Mrs. Driller about any other plans we have going on.

We have been given the banquet room for free! ...

I'm confused Trix... what banquet room where? The Hotel or Gingerbread man? And what does "free" mean? I've never heard of a place charging extra for the room, they just charge for the food, so what's free?

The hotel. Yes, there is a charge for banquet rooms at hotels, especially considering the size of the group we have. This is for our LOD Banquet which will be held on Saturday night. I guess they didn't book any weddings or anything for that night.

Thank god... can you imagine the poor people trying to have a wedding reception with "us" in the same hotel... :D

Well, at least last year, we had the right cake for it...

No one would ever accuse us of not being at least partially prepared... :D
Had we been fully prepared, we probably would have had plates and utensils... :D

who needs utensils when you bring along the heavy duty cake server set?
