CD Writer Problems - Can't get clean install

Older system: Was working previously. Can't seem to get it back.
I have a DVD and CD Writer, but when I tried to reinstall the writer program (Nero), it won't recognize the CD Writer. . When the Nero 5.X application fires up, it complains that it is missing WNASPI32.dll. I do a file find and the dll is present. Nero then calls the writer an Image Recorder. What gives?

It used to work many moons ago then quit (early Adaptec s/w prior to Roxio take over). I've had the problem every since I tried to install a new version of Roxio. I even tried the old Adaptec s/w but no go. I had Nero working at one point, but can't get a clean install.I tried to get it going then abandoned my efforts because of higher priorities. Now I'm thinking of upgrading the system and want to archive my data files to CD.

Looks like a job for Devicemanager...

I had the same problem. You've obviously tried the uninstall/reinstall process, maybe something happened with the drivers. You might check their web-site to see if downloading drivers will help. I had similar problems when I started using Windows XP. Mine is still disabled by XP occassionaly.

I have had similar problems and found out that Nero and Adaptec do not get along, specifically Adaptec's Direct CD and Nero. If you search hard enough, you should be able to find extensive information about troubleshooting your problem, but the first step is to uninstall both programs, and reinstall one or the other. I would try Nero first. That's what worked for me.

Nero and Easy CD Creator do not get along, it's nero that doesn't like easy cd. if you re install your aspi drivers you should be fine

Thanks for the advice. I'll make sure there are no remnants in the registry as well. I'll let you know how it goes.
