Check Engine Code List

Is there a "master" list of the the engine codes (ODB-I) for gen1 Mark VIIIs. I pulled my codes and can't seem to find a list anywhere (on the internet and here). The codes are listed sporadically throughout the service manual and I don't have the time to look thru every chapter.

Bud, I dont see a link for "Lincoln" (1993) so I looked under Ford and they are 2 digit codes. I checked under Ford for 1994 and they are 3 digit codes. Any ideas??

The code I got is 335 (if a read it correctly). I did the test light thing 3 times to be sure.

That code is for the PFE/DPFE Sensor which measures the amount of exhaust flow to the EGR valve.

First, you need to check the hoses on the DPFE Sensor and make sure they don't have any holes or leaks.

Next, remove the hose that goes down to the exhaust manifold and make sure its not blocked.

After that, its time to replace the sensor. :)

Honestly......if the hoses don't have any holes or cracks, I'd pick up a DPFE Sensor a swap it out, but good luck, its a PITA to get to.

To check the hoses, get a flash light and a mirror, you'll find the Sensor on the back of the driver's side cylinder head. Its a silver rectangle box with 2 hoses coming out of the bottom, one small and one a bit bigger. The hoses should be an orange color. Check them and make sure they are cracked or broken. The sensor is held on by two(I think) 3/8" nuts.

Let me see if I have a picture.............nope, not a good one.

Here's one removed from the car.

Guys, thanks for all you great responses. I hope to have a look at it in a day or so. I did do a complete tear down and cleaning of the intake about a year or two ago (93 Mark VIII) and know what a PITA this can be. I did do a thorough inspection and cleaning of the EGR and checked all hoses, etc. The reason for the teardown was to replace a leaky intake gasket. I will post my findings when resolved. Fortunately, I have a 94 parts car to swap things out with, YAY!

Sweet.....nice pic Bill.

The DPFE sensor is that silver rectangle thingy. :)

Yah I got the same code on my 94 just 3 months ago and I changed mine, they aren’t very expensive. On another note invest in a scanner. I got the ACTRON CP9015 code scanner at AutoZone $29.00. The scanner doses the job and has the book of ford codes for 95 and older cars and trucks, and it works on the air ride and ABS. helped me out allot.

Update - Check Engine Code List

Update - Check Engine Code List

Everyone, thanks again for the responses and nice photo.

Here's my update. CE light came on again this time with 332 code- insufficient EGR flow (I know 335 and 332 are related). I removed the hood and wiper motor to make the EGR and PFE sensor accessible (this is a must - 15minutes time). I checked the rubber lines, they are perfect (like new - flexible and not dried up after 14 years - all vac lines should be made of the same material). I installed the sensor from my 94 into my 93 that has the code 335. Suggestion for others is to put a light coat of liquid on the metal vac ports as it was a a pain to get the 2 lines to line up and and then push them together. The car runs smoother (always had a very very slight bucking on light accelleration at 30-50mph). This bucking is now gone and no more CE light for 3-4 days now. Hopefully cured now! I hope milage improves too with these crazy gas prices.

FYI, our forum search don't allow for 3 character searches which made it difficult to search for codes (i.e PFE sensor or 335). Can someone relay this to the administrator please? Perhaps this can be easily changed.

more then likley with those 2 codes your EGR tube is broke just like the one in the pic is. the rippled part of the tube is known to break and it a pain to replace and buy at about $120 new from ford. if yours is not broken yet expect it to pretty soon.

All, thanks again for the replies. Here's my final update..... It's been a week since the PFE sensor swap and still no codes and the Mark VIII is running strong (105k miles). Thanks CAL-LOD for the detailed reply and all others who replied too! FYI, I changed the EGR acordian tube a year ago (found it on-line for about $70) and not $120 at the stealership.
