i was thinking of buying a chip.. possibly a sct excaliber. i saw a few on ebay that were used. is it possible to get one to work after it has been used on another car?
will i be able to send it in to get a reflash? i have looked around on this a little and thought i saw that you couldnt reuse a chip, maybe some kind of copyright problem.... if reflash is possible who should i ask? and what would be the price?.... any info is appreciated.

Dont get an Xcal off ebay, there are numerous issues with them.
Generally they are still locked to the original vehicle and you have to PAY SCT to unlock the device for you to use.

The SCT forums are full of people posting problems with Ebay Xcals and Xcals purchased from RPM outlet.

Do youself a favor, contact Lonnie at Blue Oval Chips and get on that will work "the first time"...not after you wrestle with sct and the seller and end up paying MORE than you would if you had gone with Lonnie in the first place.

ok... another question, is it worth 400 bux to do this???
o after looking at the site it looks like for more than one program its gonna be much more than 400.

in one word.. YES

with that said, the best bang for the buck mod I ever did to my car was getting the SCT pro racer package, which gave me the ability to alter my own chips programming to suit my individual needs/opinions on what I wanted to happen in my PCM.

I paid 1097.00 dollars for this option and a year later, I still think this was the "Best bang for the buck" mod I have done to my car.

So... spending 400.00 to get a good solid tune from a well known vendor should net you the same result.
YOU WONT be dissapointed.

IMHO it's the best 400 dollars you could spend on your car.

Steve, where are you located?
If you are close to houston texas, I can show you "stock vs chip" in about 2 seconds {how long it takes to flip the switch on the chip)

The difference is "night and day".. car goes from "soft silky shifts" to "BEASTLY SHIFTS" and accelerates much much quicker.

Well, I lucked out and won a raffle here on LOD so I didn't pay that much. But yes, it would have been worth that much. Not only that, but now we have something to use as a code reader for all three of our cars. And we have data logging capabilities, although I haven't used that yet, my son was checking it out on his car.

im located in west palm beach florida so texas might be a strech. :) which sct product do you guys think i should go with? the xcal2? doesnt it come with 3 or 4 programs for 425? do they offer an all out power program?

from another post xlr it would seem that an xpipe is what i need... u mentioned that u almost gained a second on the 1/4 just from an x pipe.

not that I gained a full second from the xpipe, that I lost .3-.4 going from stock exhaust to a true dual with flowmasters..I got back that .3 plus .2-.3 by going with the xpipe.
there, now I've confused me and you. HAHA

What year is your car?
93-95 will need a chip
96-98 can use the Xcal

It's the 98's and up that have the better trannies.... I got a '98 sitting at my son's house waiting to go in. Wish he'd hurry and get that lift installed!!

OOPS...sorry 'bout that...you are talking about rear gears~!!! Sometimes I'm slow......

so lets say i buy some 4.10's and maybe a posi 8.8 then get the tune from blue oval.... what else will be needed? besides the tune, the 8.8, and the gears... will there be anything else?
ive seen a couple 8.8 posi's on ebay for reasonable prices, and also the 4.10s for a reasonable price. them together maybe 250ish(used of course) . i have a buddy that can install it for porlly pretty cheap too.
if some one could include an exact parts list for this mod it would be appreciated.

is that all?
what does that kit have in it?
so ill need...
-8.8 28 spline posi rear
-3.73 or 4.10 gears
-and the install kit.
-and a program from lonnie unless i go 3.73 right?

if i go 3.73 will there be a difference worth while? or should i just do 4.10's
thanks for the help so far guys.

Get at least the Motive 3.90's, 3.73's is a waste for any LSC since you have 3.27 stock. I would get the 4.10's myself. 4.30's-4.56's are ideal for racing. You will also need a new driveshaft.

my current drive shaft cant handle 4.10's? or how about the stock shaft with 3.90's?
man these mods are going to rack up.
not sure an unemployed fire academy student can afford all of this

An Eaton posi is about $550 installed (gears included).
An Xcal from Lonnie is around $400...which you'll need if you change to any other gearing.
The next bang for the buck is a high stall converter, but get the first two items done first and get back to us.

As for gears, it depends on what the car is used for: daily driver? Track car? Little of both? If you get 4.10s, you can't cruise for long periods at anything more than 75-80 mph without asking for trouble somewhere down the road. Many guys have 3.73s and find it to be an acceptable improvement over stock.

thanks for the reply "DATA" lol... it is mostly a daily driver, when on the highway i usually drive 85 to 90 so will that rule out 4.10's? i just want to give a mustang or an m5 a run for their money when i pull up next to em at the light. i thought i read i could do the 3.73's with out getting a tune. is this correct?
