Chopped and Ported MAF

I cut out the center rail, drilled out the sample tube, JB welded in a brass tube, drilled out the MAF sensor "Hole", cleaned it all up and installed it. At first it idle d like it was way rich and trying to correct, but couldn't. I then chopped off the brass sample tube thinking it was sensing too much air and making a rich mixture. After I chopped it off, idles smooth as glass, and pulls bigtime! I may have to reset the computer to keep it this way, but dang.. helluva improvement in throttle response, torque off idle etc. If it keeps working like this, I'll take it out and post pics. I suspect the computer will go back to a safe, rich tune, but in the meantime, I'll enjoy this!

RE: Chopped and Ported MAF

Why must people destroy calibrated devices? Personally I would suggest just getting an 02 gt maf or 80mm L-maf. Once you tamper with these things they will never be right again the maf is calibrated for it's housing.

He's right...

RE: Chopped and Ported MAF

Okay, you guys are right.. it took like 6 re-starts to crap out. It has trouble idling smoothly now, power comes on sharply, but no real throttle control. My mileage dropped to 16 MPG around town from a solid 22.5. A bad idea that I had to verify.

Unfortunately alot of times we all have to learn the hard way. I've made more expensive mistakes than that before.
