RE: Chrysler, 300 N
For me, Chrysler was always #1. I loved them, sold them, and wore the MOPAR flag. However, poor Chrysler was so strong and bold it took many blows to the head to kill them. The first blow was the end of the Challenger & Barracudas, together with the end of the Hi Po V-8 engines. The second blow was the end of REAL Chryslers being cheapened by the Cordoba, the LeBaron and stuff like the Front Wheel Drive mini New Yorkers. The third blow was the end of the Imperial, for without a Luxury car, there is no car to aspire to own. The forth blow was the switch to 100% 6 cyl cars. The fifth blow was the switch to 100% front wheel drive cars.
In these 5 blows, they gave up the Hi Po market, the luxury market, the station wagon market, the police & gov't. market and the Taxi & livery market and finally the end of the Cherokee, which in it's last year still sold 130,000 units. If this was not enough, they killed off Plymouth, thereby losing the entry-level market.
Bleeding to death, they then prostituted themselves by selling to a foreign manufacturer.
I am especially angry at them because they used our government's money (i.e. "bailout") to pull themselves up based upon the strong sales of the "K-Car" and the minivans, and then they sold out to a foreign corporation, after using our money to make themselves attractive!
(And) Mercedes Benz has no idea what in God's name to do with them. Mercedes, a luxury car maker had no experience in marketing a low line car, so they killed Plymouth, rather than allow Chrysler to go ahead with their plans to re-create Plymouth. PT Cruiser?????
Know what the PT stood for????? Ummmm? It stood for Plymouth Touring Cruiser !! THAT was suppossed to be its name!!! So, they killed Plymouth and made into a Chrysler. In so doing, they cheapend the nameplate CHRYSLER to bargin basement levels, since everyone knows that the PT is just a Neon underneath.
Yup, Chrylser died bleeding to death while it awaited a heart transplant that never came. Shame...really a shame! It was once a very proud make, and rightly so !
