Cluck clunk

Hey guys,

I got an annoying clunk that I am trying to track down, but am having trouble. At first I thought U-Joints, but now I am not sure. Heres the scoop. while driving , I noticed a hell of a pop and I pressed on the gas. , and esp. noticiable when the TQ Converter is in Lockup. If I let off the gas and let it coast, I can almost feel it "catch up" to whatever has play in it. Then when I even LIGHTLY press the gas, you hear and feel the "pop" through the car. I got up under it as wife put it between R/D/R/D and held the brakes, but said he didn't see the D/S moving at all like any U-Joint play. i notice the rear end in moving like it was popping up/down, which doesn't necescarily tell me anything. I believe it called a damper, I put new poly differential bushings when i put my new 3.73 gears in, IF anyone could give me some clues as to where to start, and how to "properly" diagnose these things, please let me know.

Thanks

Rick

RE: Cluck clunk

Looks like a good copy of a post I mad a while back :B I never found my prob, so if you find it that'd be great.

RE: Cluck clunk

Nope, definatly not shock mounts. Its somewhere in the drivetrain. Theres also a noticable vibration going down the road, and I am pretty sure its not just from the 2 piece driveshaft.

RE: Cluck clunk

I'll take a stab:

The driveshaft/U-Joints are apparently okay and you've replaced the differential bushings.

Could be any of the following in no particular order:
1) Rear Trans mount
2) Trans cross member bushings
3) Engine mounts
4) Silly but maybe: Broken rear sway bar
5) Half shaft CV joints
6) Rear Transmission DS yoke bushing
7) Excessive gear backlash in your 3.73's
8) Loose bolts on any of the above.

Sounds like you might need to spend some more time on your back..

I think his rubber was "tired" before it beat itself apart.

I also think mine is beating itself apart.

It's on my list of things to change, along with motor mounts.
