I was reading on LVC that some guys swap in the 96-68 cobra intake cams in the marks and is supposedly worth around 10whp I was wondering if anybody has any experience with this and if it was worth it, and would I need. Retune afterwords

Here's some info I found...

Mach 1, 03/04 Cobra, Aviator, Marauder, Navigator
Intake: 184 deg @ .050/.397" lift (measured duration)Exhaust: 196 deg @ .050/.397" lift
114 LCs

96-98 Cobra
intake PN#s F6ZE-6A270-AB crosses to F6ZZ-6250-AA
F6ZE-6A271-AB crosses to F6ZZ-6250-BA

Intake: 202-204 deg @.050/ .397 lift
Exhaust: 196 deg @.050/.397 lift
114/114 LCs

99/01 Cobra
Intake: 200 deg @.050/.397 lift (measured duration)
Exhaust: 196 deg @.050/.397 lift
114 LCs

FR500 (M-6550-T46)
intake: 212 deg @.050 /.472 lift (measured duration)
exhaust: 208 deg @.050 /.472 lift (measured duration)
109 LCs

GT Cams: (actual as tested numbers, not Ford specs)
Intake: 189 @ .050"/.424 lift (measured duration)
Exhaust: 190 @ .050"/.448" lift (measured duration)

Cobra R specs:
Intake: .515'' lift 212 deg dur @.050
Exhaust: .468'' lift 212 deg dur @.

Stock Mark VIII cams:
Intake: 186 @ 0.050"/0.392" lift
Exhaust: 194 @ 0.050"/0.390" lift

That's a significant difference on the intake cam compared to the '96-'98 Cobra. The exhaust cam has very little difference.

I believe it would pick up some HP. Whether it would be worth the work involved is dependent on the user.

what would be involved in this swap, i have little experience working on DOHC motors, ive only really worked on pushrod motors. in order to do just the intake cams would i have to take the timing chain off or just remove the smaller one the runs the the exhaust cam?

I think this may fall into the category "If you have to ask...". :D

It's a major task requiring the engine to be dropped and the cam timing set. Quite a bit more involved than the pushrod motors of yesteryear.

Well, I believe that the intake cams can be swapped without "dropping" the motor or removing the front cover. Take that with a grain of salt, because I haven't done it yet. ;)

I'm going to swap my intake cams sometime next month (after I finish rebuilding someone else's car that is on my lift right now :(), and when I do, I'll post what I did.

I have heard of it being done with the motor in the car, not so sure on the front cover staying on though.

But if anyone can do it Doug, you would be one who can. ;)

If someone already had the cobra intake wouldn't it just be easier to swap the whole head over? You can pick up B heads from cobras for $200ish.

There might be something I'm missing but it seemed like a logical step for me
