Cold air intake for LIncoln 98 mark v111

Don't know if this has been discussed but I would like to know if I can put a cold air intake on my 98 lincoln markv111 besides the intake it comes with from the factory. I tried going to a auto parts store and they said they haven't any kvn brands showing for my model and make. Can I use one from a mustang, if that makes any sense? or is it a waste of time and there is nothing that will work. Your comments are welcomed. I have a 98 lincoln mark v111. I heard putting the right one on can add 10 to 30 horsepower to your car but don't know if it is true. DOn't have the money for super charger and new exhaust and thought this might be something simple and not that expensive.

If you look at your stock intake it's 4 inches in diameter, it's very high flow as it is stock. What you can do is get a conical filter and you will be set as far as your intake goes. You won't gain much except better throttle response and maybe a couple horsepower.

10-30hp buhahahahahaha no way. 5-10 is a better estimate but it may be too optimistic.

Serge already stated the "best bang for the buck" just get an adapter for your MAF so that you can attach a conical filter. You should be set for less than $60.

If you remove the filter assembly and replace it with a conical filter you will no longer have a CAI, you will suck hot air from under the hood. Put your money else where like in a chip, tune or performance exhaust.

Look at our top NA Mark VIII 1/4 list, all the guys in the 13 seconds have conical filters...

Negative........I have a heat shield so I draw air from the outside.

If the CAI theory wasn't true, our cars wouldn't run better in the dence/cold air at Infineon.

Jeff(or arlene?)....all you had to do was search. I made this post and I have a 95 which has a different style of an intake tube, but you still can remove the air silencer in the fender and also remove the air box.

Ummm... you still have a conical filter, just because you have a heat shield over it doesn't negate the fact it's a conical filter. My car doesn't run better at Sears Point, it ran faster at Sac every single time.

I insulted my cold air box a long time ago with a conical filter. If I was to do the mod all over again I would forgo changing the air box and put the money towards something else. I don't think it is worth it.

Also I would still be interested to see if anyone actually made a dyno run with a conical vs a regular filter on a Mark VIII. In the 7 years that I have been around Mark VIIIs I don't seem to recollect a single point in time when this was done.

Also the one I do seem to remember yielded 3hp or so.

That would be me Max :) Lidio dyno tuned the Mark with a K&N panel filter in the stock air box and 80mm MAF. He got 230rwhp and 236.3tq.

Aric dyno tuned the Mark with the conical and a C&L 90mm MAF. He got 233rwhp and 240tq.

I agree with Steve. If you are mostly stock, the money spent for that 3rwhp and 4tq gain is not worth the results IMHO. The cost for me was a dyno tune for the 90mm C&L MAF, the MAF itself, and the filter.

Start talking power adders, and you have a totally different story though.

HA! Mind like a steel trap (not) lol. Thanks for chiming in Mike :D. So unless we get word otherwise this mod seems quite pointless.

My car's torque converter lock-up got messed up as well when I had it installed.

I had my dynoed tuned with it on by JW. I say it was good for no more then 3HP with the tune. Cutting off the 3rd cat and geting the exhust done got me more. If you don’t get a tune changing the air box set with a conical filter will tend to shift the car lean, you will get more power at first, but the computer will try to correct over time. Not to mention that the mass air sensors like nice laminar air flow for smooth idle, throttle response, and MPG. And that the oil filters if over oiled can contaminate the wires. I can’t remember but I think the stock air box is good for at least 350 hp if not 400 at the fly wheel.

Sorry...somehow I got your statement confused, haha.

I ran almost .3's faster at Infineon because the temp was 20* cooler and the air was super dense. I think your runs at Sac were better because of your racing habits and how you drive....better traction because of the hotter temps, or something of that matter. I can launch my car hard and use the power, but when I race up here its usually .2's slower than down there.

You're not going to see any HUGE HP increases with a stupid air filter, but every little bit helps. If your car breaths better, it will run better, idle better and get better mpg. Plus is sounds cool :D
