Cold starting problems

Is there some kind of sensor for when you first start in the morning? Car runs excellent when warmed up. Just changed the coolent sensor yesterday.

RE: Cold starting problems

Cold Start Issues usually are related to the IAC {idle air control} valve for a rough idle.

Cold No start is generally the CPS {crankshaft postion sensor}

what kind of cold start problem are you having?

RE: Cold starting problems

I replaced the IAC last week and just yesterday the coolent sensor. when i start it in the morning it goes to fast idle and then it drops down and almost dies and then it just kinda studders when you take off until it warms up a bit

RE: Cold starting problems

Could be the IACT {intake air charge temp} sensor.

It's located on the MAF tube next to a PCV hose, has an electrical connector.

If it's misreporting the intake air charge temp it "could" cause a issue when the engine is cold that goes away once some heat is in the motor.

RE: Cold starting problems

Changed out the IATC sensor today will let you know if it worked. Thanks for your help

*crosses fingers*

Of course you know we're just "throwing parts" at symptoms, not the best way to get to the root of the problem.

but.. sometimes we get lucky.

RE: Cold starting problems

Well everything i replace makes it run just a tad better but that quite wasn't it! But i'm getting closer. ran the codes and nothing came up. do you think seafoam might help it?

Can't hurt. When was the last time you Sea Foamed it (miles)? If it's over 30K, it needs it again anyway.

RE: Cold starting problems

Never have used it, 96000 miles. I've always been leary of it because of the 02 sensors! But at the rate I'm going with sensors why not those too :D

Not to worry with Seafoam...it will actually clean your sensors too. There are no bad side effects with Seafoam. And after that many miles, you definitely need it.

Might consider throwing a set of Plugs at it.

My 98 LSC has 120K miles on it so I guess I'm due for Seafoam as well. Just don't know what vacum hose to use to suck it up with. The poor cold start is really getting to be a pain though !

RE: Cold starting problems

On my can I use the large hose coming from the brake booster to the intake manifold. I pushed a smaller hose inside the larger hose and used the smaller hose for my siphon.

RE: Cold starting problems

Thanks, I'm about to give it a try and am really looking forward to the difference some of the others have described !!:D
