Sadness along with Happiness:

Two weeks ago, my Dr completed a medical process on me and confirmed
along with several blood and a bone marrow biopsy, that I have a serious "bug".

My wife contacted the Red Cross, who in turn contacted my sons unit comander
in Iraq, requesting that he be sent home..

We didnt know that the unit he was attached to was already in the process of readying
for a two week R&R , and were being sent back to Ft Carson Colorado.

The orders had been cut and he along with the company of medical personal from
a reserve unit that had been actavated all most a year ago were to leave Bagdad
fly to kuwait, and be flown to Colorado.

Now he is regular Army, a Ranger , special services Sgt, attaches to the 82,nd
Airborne. He was attached to this med unit to train the personall in some sort
of combat survival training . He had done this since they were activated at
Ft Carson early this year, and deployed to Iraq.

His Commander receiveing the Red Cross breif, had him put on the first available
flight out.
He left Sat night, and the rest of his company on Sunday morning.
Wnen he got to kuwait, while waiting for his flight out, got the news of the Chopper
that was shot down. It was his company, and the flight he had been schuled to
be on.
He called me, and you can understand was extremely devastaded. These were the
young people he had trained , worked with, lived with, and fought with since the
day one.
What can anyone say? Im very thankfull he wasnt with them on that flight,
but I feel so sad..

As we are told, God works in stange ways sometimes, I personally met some of
these kids when I went down to Ft Carson to visit a week before they deployed.
He called again this morning. He was in Maine, waiting for a plane to Ft Carson.
He will fly from Carson up here after debreifing. Ill be back on the board then.

NEVER FORGET THE PRICE OF FREEDOM IS NOT CHEAP!!!!!!!

RE: "Coming Home"

Sorry to hear about your "bug", but glad to hear your son is ok. It's hell to finally retire and live the good life only to find out that health problems are horning in.

In your profile you mention /Macon, GA, well, I live in Griffin, only 50 mi N. At one time I and my Father operated a Pure Oil gas station just on the East side of Spring St. bridge, 1961, in Macon.

I hope you get throught your "bug."

I think the whole nation was saddened by the great loss of life that occured with the downing of the chopper. I am glad your son is safe.
