your description is very weak, is this the new halogen headlight assemblies that delete the h.i.d problem, or are these new hid's? seems like you are missing info. be more specific.

Do these parts have a Ford Part Number or is this the bastardized kit that is seen on ebay that is NOT DOT approved??

I have a 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII, need to replace one of my low beam headlights,, I went to the local ford dealer and they are telling I can only order the Full headlight replacement unit including the plastic cover,, for $900.00. I replaced one is 2003 and it only cost me 169.00 for that one. what has happened. I would consider rewiring so I don't have to use this type of set up anymore if I could find someone here in Southern California that could do it for me on both sides. My high means are good. they are not HID, yes the old white, yellowish hue? Anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you,,, Sheila/ Cybrdancer

oops to ad to the last post I meant to say they are HID LOW BEAM,, would like to get rid of them and convert them to a more cost efficient set up. I like my Mark,,, good gas mileage... :)

Welcome cybrdancer! :)

Well, what happened is the HID bulbs became obsolete. The manufacturer(Sylvania) was the sole source and the bulbs were only used on Mark VIIIs. As such, Ford decided to revert to halogen and retooled the '97-'98 headlamps to a halogen setup. The earlier model Gen1s that were HID equipped were left to use the halogen replacement assemblies that are still available.

There still may be some Gen1 HID assemblies available, that may be what the dealer was pricing.

You can purchase new halogen headlamp assemblies.

As for light output, I suggest researching the HIR bulbs.

you can buy an new or used hid bulbs on ebay. if you want to change out to halogen then call a dealer and ask for a discount. i found one near in hemet to sell me the lights for my 98 for $600 then i would use sylvania silverstar ultra bulbs and get the same nearly the same color temperature light as hid with the benefit of both high and low being the same color. good luck

im sorry but you say almost the same light and color from a silverstar? silverstar bulbs are garbage, you get more light from a standard sylvania 9005 bulb thats been around for years then those silverstar highly priced pieces of crap. theres no incandescent bulb yet that can produce the output lumens of an hid bulb. i understand fully the whole problem with these factory hid bulbs but i will never resort to going to regular light bulbs ever.

lumens. in my reply to the post i did not address the lumens. as a refresher the former is the color of the light while the latter is the quanity of light. furthermore, incandescent bulbs contain a vacume or the absence of gas as opposed to halogen that utilize gas to give more light and longer life. additionally, the silverstar ultra is a different product than silverstar producing a longer life bulb, with a higher color temperature and noticeably more lumens down the road because of the clear glass and improvements inside the glass. you are right that there are substantially more lumens with a good working hid bulb but fmc has put us in a position hunting for replacements bulbs or replacement headlight systems as you know.

it appears many of us have gotten a taste of luxury with the oem hid low beam illumination. fmc is not willing to support our want and desire and in fact has killed it. fyi, fmc stopped ordering the product, required sylvania to return the hid-9500 tooling while refusing sylvania's request for an aftermarket license to produce the bulb for us. thank you fmc. they have artfully devised a substantial revenue stream for them tho with a replacement halogen headlight system utilizing the 9005-6 high and low beam bulbs. this pricy fix is what i am using for my 98 mark.

i have been listening to this group of elitist driving there $1500 cars carping about halogen bulbs. more than 95% of drivers on the road are foisted with halogen bulbs that many of the captains of industry here consider dangerous and under powered (lumens). has anyone ever driven with incandescent lighting?

by the way there is a hir replacement bulb for the halogen system that is quite juicy.

happy motoring

my nightmare is over

my nightmare is over

i installed the $54 hir low beam bulbs i bought at the deere dealer yesterday. it has been a long time but last night we went out on the town. these bulbs are just as advertized. there is substantially more illumination down the road than the 9006 bulbs that came with the halogen oem replacement headlights that i have been running for the last few weeks.

if anybody is ready to chuck the hid fright i still have a new set of these headlights for sale.

the headlights were a direct replacement bypassing the ballast and plugging into the factory loom where the ballast was. all the bulbs are included.

by the way, i was advised not to use the security module that came with the oem kit which i did not and the mark works great with no computer glitch. has anybody heard of the problem with these new modules where it fails requiring replacement of the system including the keys? thanks....tom
