Component speakers.

Hi, I'm looking for a good component speaker system to replace the JBL stock system. I have an Alpine 9835 head unit and I'm rewiring it all. I did a search and there are some old posts recommending Infiniti Kappa series and Kicker RS series. Anyone have any recommendations, should I go with one of these? I have a small rockford fosgate amp that I plan on using to run them. Or if anyone has a nice component set that they want to sell, let me know. I'd like to keep it under $150 for the component speakers, thanks!

I also have an eclipse amp running a couple subs in an enclosure and like the bass from them, so I just need a component system to give me good clear sound, I don't pound it.

RE: Component speakers.

Emmm... first of, you can't get a good set of 4 components for under $150.

You can try the 572.5 Kappas, but I feel like they seriously lack midrange punch. They give ear-shattering highs and they don't break up at high volumes but if you add bass they simply break up at low volumes.

I have not had experience with the kickers, but they usually make really good stuff, so I would just go for that.

RE: Component speakers.

try the polk audio 6 1/2" momo component set. i have them in my truck and plan on putting them in my mark viii. they will handle any thing you can throw at them. you can check them out at www.polkaudio.com or listen to them at any circut city. if you need more info e-mail me 'cause i work for a polk dealer.

RE: Component speakers.

Thanks for the heads up, I've been doing some reading and the Polk momo series has gotten some high marks. I'll head on over to CC and have a listen.

RE: Component speakers.

I've made my decision on my system. I bought some 6x8 MA Audio components for the doors and a pair of infinity reference 6x8s for the back. I got an Eclipse EA2212 to drive the components and will run the infinitys from the head unit. Now I just have to wire everything up, hopefully this weekend, its supposed to be nice out.

I went with the MA Audio HK57 because of price ( I got a great deal on them) and saw some good reviews on them. If I don't like them I'll send them back and get something else. I also got them because they were 6x8 and I didn't know what would be involved with putting 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 round speakers in place.

Can't wait to get it all in. :)

RE: Component speakers.

I thought our speakers are 5x7? I don't think they change the size on the GEN 2s.

RE: Component speakers.

5x7 and 6x8 are pretty much interchangable.

Those will sound good on a good budget, i hope you like them. Re-wiring cars is a blast, if you don't have wire yet get it at http://www.knukonceptz.com, byt far the cheapest and best quality wire out there.

switching to a 6.5 inch would have only required a baffle to be made to mount it on. I am running a 6.5 in the doors, and 1 inch and 3.5 inch in kickpods.

RE: Component speakers.

I'm still waiting on a warmer weekend to install them. I don't feel like fooling around with this stuff on a 20 degree day.
I am rewiring everything, I have the speaker wire and I bought the knukoncepts RCAs on ebay. Can't wait!

RE: Component speakers.

Manny, if you need some help let me know. I'll lend you a hand......or just laugh at you as you swear up a storm because rewiring everything is truly a PITA!!!

LOL! Thanks David, I'll let you know. I'm waiting for a decent weekend to work on it. I know I'll be swearing up a storm if I'm having problems wiring it AND its 10 degrees outside. haha

RE: Component speakers.

Manuel, you can always come here to work on it. But I can't help because I'm afraid of all things electrical. We don't have a heater for the garage yet, either.... one of these days though.

RE: Component speakers.

Thanks for the offer Sharon, I'll let you know if I can take you up on it! Don't be afraid to work on the electrical. You learn quickly, once you start getting shocked, what not to do. j/k haha

RE: Component speakers.

Its not that bad Sharon, just a matter knowing which wire goes where. Most of the time they are labeled anyway so its plug and play! What's a pain is if you have to work in the trunk. I've learned that I'm getting to big to play in the trunk......that's where the kid comes in handy! :D

RE: Component speakers.

Hey Manny! I found this cool site (and became an admin over there), check it out, http://www.caraudiotalk.com/ They have stuff on how to make boxes and kick panels. I'm going to see if I can make a cool setup in the trunk out of fiberglass.

RE: Component speakers.

I'll check it out, thanks for the heads up David!

EDIT: I got my stuff installed, and it sounds good, I just have to fine tune the crossover and clean up the wiring in the trunk. I have pics on my home computer, I'll post them when I get a chance. It was a bit of a pain routing the speaker wire through the rubber connecting hose between the body and door until I taped the speaker wire to a hanger wire and convinced it to go. haha

RE: Component speakers.

Sorry about the late response, but I have RCAs running to the amps in the trunk and the amps power it all.

I originally had planned to run the alpine through the factory harness because the sound was good and I wouldn't have to rewire everything. Something shorted in the factory wiring, either the factory amp or something else. Anyway, there was no sound but the head unit was good so I was forced to rewire everything and I got another amp for the components. It wasn't that bad, I already had power going to the trunk so I just had to run an extra set of RCAs and run speaker wire up front.

RE: Component speakers.

I have been a car audio enthusiast for quite a few years now, the best brands for sound quality are
Boston Acoustics
JL Audio
MB Quart
Infinity
Runners up for excelent quality but better price are
Pioneer (especially the Premier line)
Kenwood
Alpine
Sony (yes sony, listen to the speaker not the name "sony" and tell me im wrong)

These brands are by no means in order from best to worst just a general idea, i am an electronics tech and car audio is my passion so any questions on this topic i will be more than willing to answer. :)
