Confusion over Jmod and accumulator upgrade on 98 Mark 8

Please correct me if I am wrong..

From what I understand, since I have a 98 Mark, I do not need to do the accumulator upgrade since the 98 already has the updated parts.

I have read information regarding the Jmod but have some questions, assuming I do not upgrade the accumulators, basically all I need to do is drill the appropriate openings in the separator plate and remove the spring for 1-2 and 2-3?

I want this to allow the tranny to shift as firm as possible. I installed a superior shift kit into a 93 SHO so I am aware of the parts associated with the valve body.

The 98 does have the new style accumulators, but you might want to check into the upgraded/different spring that Max @ fivestar ford sells.

If I remember correctly it's a town car spring and it firms up the 1-2 shift.
Some people omit that spring all together for a "very firm/quick" shift.

Give Max at fivestar a shout, he'll get you steered in the right direction and he's very good with pricing for us mark 8 nuts.

Thanks for the help.

So if I choose to omit the spring, basically its:

1. removal of fluid
2. pull valve body
3. drill appropriate holes in separator plates
4. remove spings
5. replace valve body
6. fill new fluid

Put on new Filter, drain Torque Convertor, use Mercon V, don't forget to get seperator plate gaskets. Now is also the time to either replace the pan with one that has a drain in it or put one in your existing with a kit.

Thanks.. will have to do.

In the TCCoA site, there is the article referring to the jmod. In the notes section at end of article it says,

NOTE #4: There is a very small gasket slot in this location (arrow points to it). This is slot number 1 on the drill specification chart. Open this slot to the correct size based on the chart and your application. If you are opening the holes to the less than 300 HP range, you DO NOT have to change this slot.

Could you please explain what this 'gasket slot' is referred to. Thanks

Anyone know the website for Fivestar Ford?

I am finding a few thru google that are not of the same dealership. Thanks

don't forget to get seperator plate gaskets.

Make sure you pay attention to the holes in the gasket. Put the separator plates together with the gasket and hold it up to a light to make sure NONE of the holes in the separator plates are blocked by the gasket. Very common.....

I saw a picture of someone going with a B&M pan. What pan did you go with that had a drain plug?

This is the one I uses.....got it on eBay.
