Hi!

I got an e-mail from a guy who's looking for a good home for '87 Continental and I'd like to know something more about these cars before I get into trouble :D

It's been sitting in a garage for a for a few years so I have to tow it back home and I'm not sure if my friend's small tow truck can handle it (~200miles) What's the overall length and weight of 1987 Continental?

Does it have air suspension similar to Mark VIII? Is it possible to sensor lower it? Do you know if it's possible to replace air bags with eg. '87-88 T-bird Turbo Coupe coil springs?

Does it have same wierd hydraulic brake booser as Mark VII and T-bird TC?

Is it the same 5.0 engine as in 86-> Town Car in this Connie?

Thanks in advance for help!

My manuals do not go back far enough.

But from wiki...

The '84–'87 Continental was a 'spiritual successor' to the Lincoln Versailles intermediate of the 1970s. Like the earlier Versailles (which shared most of its sheet metal, drivetrain, and chassis with the Ford Granada and Mercury Monarch), this new Continental — serving as the brand's premium model — was based on a lower-rung Ford model using Ford's Fox platform. This new platform was originally introduced for the 1978 Ford Fairmont and Mercury Zephyr. Fairmont's 105.5 in (2,680 mm) wheelbase was stretched 3 in (76 mm) for the Continental. In a parallel, the '76 Seville shared GM's X-platform alongside the Chevrolet Nova, a compact vehicle that competed directly with Fairmont. But the '84–'87 Continental differed greatly than Versailles in that Continental wasn't a lesser car dressed with luxury add-ons. Instead, the 1984 Continental had a unique body and interior, both giving a feeling of luxury true to Lincoln's image. The Continental succeeded where Versailles had failed in the sales race.

I finally got it and I really like my new "old" 80's Continental with huge sunroof :) It's a Givenchy with around 80K miles, Dallas car till 1996.

Bad things: left front suspension solenoid doesn't work, rear brake line leaks, fuel gauge doesn't work.

Pretty nice looking! :)

I never realized how they shared the styling with the Mark VII. :)
