Contiplating a color change

I had a set of 'chrome' wheels that were clearly not plated... they were crap...

any spot where the clear had worn down a little, the 'chrome' turned black... you could scratch the 'chrome' off with a not particularly sharp knife...

That's not really chrome, it's silver nitrate which is MUCH softer, it will not last at all on wheels and even on a car it will get scratched and scuffed very easy.

I ran across this and wondered how a Gen i like Whiner would look done this way. The music sucks, but the rest is interesting.

Pretty sweet. I was going to sayyyy Chrome deals with electroplating and bonding of metal on copper and nickel in dunk tanks. Still fasinating to watch. I wonder if it would stay nice like that with thick anti UV/ clearcoat. Thumbs up. Wonder what the guys are being exposed to with no repirators on. That dude in the blue has GOT to be breathing that mist in. At least the other one has a cheapie mask on.

REading the comments....it looks like a liquid chemical reaction which causes one of the chemicals to stick to the metal, thus creating a shine? Who knows.

I am no Photo chop expert, but this is an idea on Black Chrome shading.

I was just watching inside west coat customs and they did a whole A8 like this. Pretty cool process, I wonder how durable it is, I wouldn't think it would hold up well even clear coated.

That looks pretty sweet! You can see tue dullness in the chrome on the hood. I'm with you guys, prob won't hold up.

That's why I thought about Black on the top sides, and fade to the Chrome which would be prominent on the lower sides. I read that there is a special Clear Coat they have to go with it.

I just called a place out on the "Left Coast", and got a rough price to get the car done. I will be waiting for a lottery pay off or some inheritance from an unknown relative before mine gets done. According to the painter there is adleast 4 times the labor, and the materials are 5 times more expensive than a quality paint job. The look still intrigues me however, especially with fade effects as maybe could get away with just Chroming lower portion of fenders and doors.

Haha I figured. There are plenty of hooptys out here with the lower half of the cars chrome taped. You can get it in 6" width and a 50' roll.

Yep, you were right, the music does suck.

I wouldn't do it. Chrome the wheel and engine parts yes, but the whole body? I think it looks terrible.
