Converter seal?

Last time at the dealer for an oil change, the mechanic told me I have a slow leak in my converter seal. I don't even know what the hell that is. Whatever it is, it's not bad enough to leave any spots under the car. The mechanic said the trans would have to be removed to fix it.

Anybody care to elaborate, and is this something that is even doable outside of a professional?

RE: Converter seal?

Converter seal as in torque converter? I'll assume he has detected oil leakage in the bell housing between the engine and transmission. If that is correct, about the only transmission fluid leak you could fix without pulling the transmission would be the torque converter drain plug.

You may be approached with liquid fixes to seal up any leaky transmission. IMHO, I would be very leary of such fixes in our transmissions. Maybe years ago on a old TH350, but not on a 4R70W.
