RE: cops finally caught up w/ me
There are laws against loud exhaust. Ditto dark tint and driving with your bright lights on when there is other traffic. Some officers enforce these things, some don't. It is common for law enforcement agencies to get together and have a "crackdown" or "blitz" for a certain offense in an area. Soemetimes it will be state or nation wide; like seatbelt enforcement.
Stopping people for minor offenses is a common tactic used to check for drunks, warrants, drugs, terrorists, etc. (The Oklahoma city bomber was caught becasue he was stopped for an unrelated minor traffic violation.) You'd be absolutely amazed at how many people end up going to jail for REAL crimes after being stopped for minor violations. How else will we come into contact with wanted people? They don't usually invite us over to their drug house, but they DO carry their drugs and guns with them in their cars.
One of my guys recently arrested a CHILD MOLESTER after he stopped the guy on a minor traffic violation. So we ARE out there arresting the bad guys. So there...
More people talk themselves into a ticket than will ever talk themselves out of one.
There is no universal way to talk yourself out of a ticket. Some officers do not ever let people off, others rarely write anything other than warnings. Young guys (and gals) are usually more gung ho with tickets.
I don't think female officers have a chip on their shoulders, but can promise we will cop an attitude if you treat us in a condescending manner. (We get that a lot.)
Don't EVER argue. I wouldn't stop you if you weren't doing something wrong, so if you want to argue I will certainly give you a ticket just so you will have the opportunity to argue with the judge.
If you don't want to get stopped, don't do anything wrong and hope your car doesn't look like one that was used in a crime nearby. Otherwise, you may get stopped. That's just the way the game is played.
