crappy gas mileage (15 Mpg)

RE: crappy gas mileage (15 Mpg)

Hey Lee,

It's still going on. I've spent more time on it than I have looking for a job now which sux. I just got an extention to the 30 days so that's good.

I'm still waiting on the referee to tell me what my exhaust has to be. They say everything has to be just like the Cobra so I asked them does that mean 4 cats like the Cobra or can I go with 3 like the Mark since the Mustang's exhaust won't fit our cars. They seem to be leaning more to the 4 cats. So if that's it then at least I can keep my Bassani X-pipe but I have to fit 2 more cats between it and the forward cats. And the car passes the sniffer now with only 2 cats, bunch of BS.

I have everything else ready to go for the install. I'm still building the jumper cable from the EEC IV harness to the EEC V computer. Then I need to run a dozen or so wires through the firewall to support the O2 sensors, electric air pump and then run the new wires from the EDIS module back to the EEC V. The EDIS won't be functional after this. Already made up a new harness for all 4 O2 sensors.

Today I'm installing the air pump. I have to move my vacuum canister out of the way for it. So I'm putting it to the other side where my cold air induction is since I can't have that now. And then installing the factory air box. I just have to modify it some to fit the 90mm MAF and run some kind of 4 inch hose to the Cobra inlet.

That gives me a couple days to swap out the exhaust manifolds before the weekend.

Then next week during the dyno tune session I'll have the EEC V reflashed to make this all work. Wonder how much HP I'm going to lose now?

RE: crappy gas mileage (15 Mpg)

I drove down to Atlanta last week (from Baltimore area) and got 25.4 on way down with Premium fuel. On way back with mid-grade (89 octane) I got 27.4 between Atlanta and North Carolina. Go figure. And if I would drop below 80MPH, I'da got rear-ended!! Sure was fun driving the LSC down and back tho....

RE: crappy gas mileage (15 Mpg)

A million reasons. Poor fuel delivery (pump). Running too rich. Running too lean. Head gasket problem, O'2's are bad, What else? Brakes sticking. Driving up hill. 100 ft burnouts. Idleing in LA for 2 hours.

Need more info....................................

Well at 97 degrees (today) and nothing but stop and go driving, I still get 18.3-18.5 per gallon city. I'll take it.

RE: crappy gas mileage (15 Mpg)

Yesterday I finished installing the electric air pump, new style exhaust manifolds and all that piping and crap just so I can get past this CA smog inspection. Car is a 95 so it never had it. Anyways I had to swap out the bus bar inside the engine compartment fuse box so I had the 2 required live terminals to run the pump. EEC IV cars and EEC V have different setups and electrical requirements.

Anyways I had the battery disconnect of course. So yesterday after I was done I took the car out to make sure things were A-OK, you know after dropping the K-member with engine and trans you never know what problems you caused...fluid and exhaust leaks, front end alignment or worse.

Well I put about 30 miles on the car mostly city but the counter was showing 18.3 mpg. I just figured it was a fluke. Well today I put 57 miles on the car and all but 8 were city. I averaged 18.7 and the highway average only got up to 19.9. It probably would have kept going if I were on the highway longer.

So try disconnecting your battery for awhile to reset everything, just a thought.
