CV Joint Issues?

I have two Mark VIIIs and both seem to have problems with the CV joints that connect to the axles. After nearly 175,000 miles they are causing vibrations at certain highway speeds and on de-celeration from plus 70 MPH.

When I went to FOMOCO to get an idea what new joints would cost, I was told that they are no longer sold because the the half shafts and cv joints come as a preassembled unit. They have been discontinued.

Does anyone know how to repair and/or replace these CV joints and/or half shafts? Where are the parts for these?

Have you had it looked at or are you just assuming its a half shaft vibration? Sounds like a drive shaft vibration to me. If you had a half shaft vibration you'd get some sort of noises and a different type of vibration. See if you have any drive shaft shops locally that can replace your u-joints and balance the shaft.

I've never heard of a half shaft causing vibrations yet almost once a month people complain about their drive shaft vibrating at 65+ MPH.

That 04 motor is NEW and a great price! :) I sold my used one with 60k on it for 9500 bucks!

Last Summer I took the drive shaft out and had the U-Joints replaced and had the shaft balanced better than new by a shop in Houston, Texas. The shaft is not the problem, but thank you for your suggestion.

Thank you for all the other suggestions as well. I will give the other site a try.

Just bought the new CV joint/Axle combo from the site listed above. This forum has come through once again! Thanks you guys! I am very blessed that there are people who are willing to share their knowledge.

God bless you all.

Sweet....I'm glad you had the shaft worked over first, a lot of people just go off on tangents because someone suggests something to them. Sounds like you know what you're doing. :D

No problem man, we're here to help.
