Daytona 500

Amazing. Car Board here, right ? After the SuperBowl there was loads of talk here about it. Today was the Daytona "500" and nobody mentions it. Did anybody see it? I had like 5 guys over and we all watched it and consumed food, chips, pretzels, beer, R/C Cola, a few hoagies and a Onion-pizza. Watched Pres. Bush & crew make the rounds pressing the flesh. He seem to really like it all. They drove the presidential limo (Cadillac) around the track on a Pace Lap. Our Pizza was cold, and we were all too lazy to go heat it up. Now, everybody left and I am cleaning up one big mess.
Anybody else watch it?

RE: Daytona 500

I didn't watch. The parentals flew down picked me up and we flew out for lunch. Much better than watching a race in my opinion.

RE: Daytona 500

Just came to see what the rest of you thought.

Did there seem to be an extra dose of "bitchin" this year from the Bubbas?

First - a rant about the rescue crew not taking proper direction from a driver who was currently upside down spitting sod (They ARE actually trained to ignore drivers and the drivers know this).

Then the three or four comments about rookies lack of driving skill (duh? And they call them rookies for why ...???)

And then the banter back and forth at each other while on camera. "He didn't leave me enough room!" (Well then drive something smaller!)

And lastly, the comments that the spoilers are too big - so the poor boys caint pass no more - and the new tires are "too durn slippery" (ask the pit guy that lost his grip after falling on his face - "Yep. they don't stick like they used too")

Overall, I don't think I'll ever miss a Daytona telecast - but this one was ... ehhhh ... a three on the emotiometer.

'Course 12 cars out in a single crash was something to see - but was it me or was every camera pointing at something else when it happened?

Oh - one last thing -- Ford ran the GT-40 ad again. Took me ten mintues to sit normal after that.

I've been a NASCAR fan since 62 and never miss a Daytona race. The recent changes to the tires and spoiler seem to have broken up the huge packs and allowed them room to race. We'll see what this years rules changes bring.

Jack,

Do you agree with the new points? How towards the end of the year the Top 10 in points all go back to ZERO points, then basically determine who is champ by the remaining few races? It's an odd format.
