Displacement

Has the phrase there's no replacement for displacement gone by the wayside? With the new 6 cyl camaros making 300hp and the numbers that the ecoboost engines are getting, are our 8cyls becoming dinosaurs? What's your opinion?

The new V6 engines are the wave of the future mandated by the government with fuel mileage demands. Look to fewer V8's showing up in passenger cars.

With that in mind, how long before the 6 cyl goes down the tubes? I can't drive a 4 cyl:eek: I'd rather walk!!!!

Ironically, the traditional 4-cylinder car manufacturers are moving to 6 cylinders for more power.

JP that is absolute gospel. But with the bean counters and Gov mandates we may all be driving 1/2 cyls before we know it :frown::fart

Zero cylinders is more like it, we will be driving electric cars.

Electric cars open another bag of worms. I don't know if I want to be sitting that close to that powerful of an electro-magnetic field. I don't have kids now, but thats not to say I wouldn't like to have them in the future. Just think about what they say about cell phones.

LOL. our government would never do anything to harm us. They know whats best. LMAO

Yes...the higher numbers for the new V6's are due to variable valve timing and direct injection, among other things. These also produce much better low end power, which was the last reason to go V8.

Myth.

What do you think the Chevy Volt is?

Answer: a huge battery on wheels.

The you better stay away from the kitchen blender and power tools :) lol

umm yea, our DOHC is back from 1992. 17 years does a lot to engine development...
A current 3.5 liter V6 can easily match the mark VIII power output.

The Nissan 3.7 liter V6 is 330hp 270 tq. Puts down about 270 to the wheels... 50-60 more than a stock mark VIII.

Toyota has a 3.5 liter with 306 hp that puts down 260 to the wheels...

The "new" V8s are scraping 400 NA

I am not even going to comment on the tinfoil hat magnetic field comments.

Peak numbers mean squat to me, but maybe more to a bench racer like yourself.:p I want to see the curve through out the power ban to make any comparison. :)
But you are right about the RWHP, a lot of parasitic lost on the DOHC to spin the 4 cams and move all those valves.
