Do you have cracked HVAC buttons?

Well, if you do have cracked buttons... you must own a 93 or 94 car, but I digress, I just wanted to let you know that I just replaced my control panel with a brand new 2nd Gen panel for $150 and not only does it work flawlessly, but it looks much more modern, the buttons are easier to press (since they’re bigger) and at last I don't have to deal with bright white light blasting up at me from the places where the old button faces used to be. (That was a pretty long sentence :p ) So if any of you have this problem, the 96-98 control panel is a perfect solution.

RE: Do you have cracked HVAC buttons?

Joe, did you try the outside temp trick? Did it work?

RE: Do you have cracked HVAC buttons?

Now that’s a Gen 2 Exclusive (unless you steal Gen 2 parts). Its obvious these Gen 1's try to be like us. Which only proves Gen 2 rules.

RE: Do you have cracked HVAC buttons?

Sorry Sharon, but I couldn't seem to get the out side temp thing to work... And just for the record, the HVAC panel in question was first offered in 96. Clearly they took the best of the Gen1 when they created the Gen2... :D

As for Gen2 vs. Gen1... Whatchu got huh? Four inches of extra bulbus grill? :p

The big question, is why the extra grill for a car that goes SLOWER!!! :)

RE: Do you have cracked HVAC buttons?

It's the extra grill the slows it down... all the air being forced into the hood rather then over... tsk, tsk, tsk... :D

Yep, gen 2 owners have a bigger package if you know what I mean. Since you drive a limo, you should know better.

RE: Do you have cracked HVAC buttons?

No one ever accused a 30 foot long Town Car of trying to be "aerodynamic"... :p

Edit: I wish i toke that pic with my Lights on, so those First Gen owners can wet themselves :p

RE: Do you have cracked HVAC buttons?

I'm sure we've been thru this before.......even though the 96,97, and 98 HVAC panels look the same, only the 96 will work in the 93 thru 96. In 97 ford went to the OBDII system and the wiring system becomes a "communications Link" which is not compatible with the earlier models. I know that the 96 unit will work in a 94 since I purchased a complete unit from car-parts.com for $50.00, used but in great shape, and installed it in my car.

Good luck

RE: Do you have cracked HVAC buttons?

I should have been more specific... "every car" sold within the United States from January 1st, 1996 to today, has been OBDII compliant as per federal regulations...

Huh?

RE: Do you have cracked HVAC buttons?

Thanks for the info. I ordered one from Torrie. As soon as I get permission, I'll order one for the wife's Conti -- her panel buttons are cracked worse than mine.

RE: Do you have cracked HVAC buttons?

Thanks for the info, Joe. I just got my replacement and it was as easy to install as you said. It looks great! No more cracked buttons.

Now the BOSS want one for her Conti.
