Doo-hickey

What are those important doo-hickeys on top of the rear shocks in the trunk area?? I am going to replace my rear shocks this weekend and dont know if the Monroe Sensa-trac's will work with these weird looking things. Anyone know if I can do without them?

RE: Doo-hickey

The OEM shocks had a sort of anti-dive feature that was actuated thru that "doo-hickey". I still have them on my '94, but everyone who has changed to the Sensa-Tracs says to just tie them off to one side to prevent rattles. You will need new upper mounts specifically made for the MK8.

Those shock mounts will make a difference in your ride that is for sure. Good, cheap investment.

RE: Doo-hickey

I simply re-used the mounts and used the bushings that came with the sensa-tracs. Let me tell you it is WONDERFUL. I bought the car at 128000 miles and it rode rough, but I was fine with the ride because of the power. But now it rides like a DREAM. I am so happy with these shocks. I just sent my kids into the trunk to do the top half and I was under the car with the 1/2 socket to get the bottom bolt off and almost blew out one of the *Boys* getting off those things that are torqued to 1,000,000,000,000,000, lb/ft of torque. Total time was around 45 minutes because I had to reverse engineer the drivers side mount because the bushing was shot. I pulled off the Factory shocks. The car has 138000 miles on the original shocks. Now all I have to do is track down the rattle coming from the front passenger side. Kinda sounds like the strut is shot. I'm hoping its just a brake line that came loose from it's mounting spot. Then again, I'm also hoping that I get a visit from Ed McMahon and the publishers clearing house with my $10,000,000 check. Next up is to bleed the brakes.
