Door handle question

I just ordered on for my 97 Mark VIII and went through a litany of questions. There must be differences. I pulled one off of my 95 Mark VIII I've been using for parts, with the intention of putting it on my 97. After all the crap I had to go through to get the old one off there's no way in hell I was going to take a chance and finding out it was wrong.

ALSO, these things are only $60 dollars new. The dealer charges only 1/2 hour to replace it!!!! I screwed around the better part of the day getting mine out and decided I'd let the dealer install it. By the time I got done it would be totally screwed up. I feel sorry for the guy who has to replace it if he's only getting paid flat rate. I plan to give him a tip for his efforts if that's the case.

It seems to be a very common problem with these guys. A buddy of mine had his replace on his 96 too. Not sure I'd take a chance with a used one. Especially at $60. That's from the dealer too. Bet you can do better if you reach out and touch one on-line.

Ok well Im parting out my 97 mark VIII and Im listing the door handles and I want to put in the discription that it will fit 1st gen and 2nd gens if it will so that dosn't help me Thank you for your help I should of put that in my question

PS. it wasn't a big deal removing the door handles at all if you have the right tools.

Removing was not a problem for me either. I thought "Wow this is going to be simple." Putting it back together was a lot more difficult. Never could get the key lock linkage reconnected.

I believe the doors and rear side windows are the only body parts that are interchangeable from the 1st gen and 2nd gen. So I want to say they will fit but I am not a 100%

the door handles will all interchange from 93 to 98 its the same handle only the late 96 to 98 handles are the better ones. the 93-early 96's with the bolt on counter weight are junk, the better handles are the handles with the molded on counter weight, not only that but the handle itself is thicker and stronger. you can also use the front handles out of the continentals they are also the same handle.
