drag radials

RE: drag radials

You can ask Squirell, he has them on his '95 with stock 10 spoke directionals. Car looks mean!

RE: drag radials

I am running Nitto 555 drag radials, size 245-50-16.
You probably could fit 255's in the rear.
Hope that helps.

PS they are not cheap, but they work very well.

RE: drag radials

Thanks!! Do you have to do a serious burnout first, or just "heat" them a little?

RE: drag radials

I have the same tires, NT555R's. I'm running 245's also. 255's would probably fit, but i don't thing they would help because as you go wider, it's stressing more to fit on the rim, rounding off the tread surface and giving you less than the actual 255 width touching the ground.

I find that on the street, if i just spin them a little to clean them off, i can get all the traction i need, even with gears and a stall. I've only had them at the track once, and no matter what i did i spun. But that was the track, though, not the tires. Lapeer dragway sucks big time.

Just have to heat them up.

RE: drag radials

I have almost wore my Nitto 555 245's out. If you are running a mildly modified car you will have to jsut heat them a little. If you are spraying N2O out of hte hole you will have to cook them a while to get them really sticky. I have nothing but good things to say about these particular tires.

RE: drag radials

If I remember correctly from the Chicago meet last year you are driving on Nitto slicks!!! :p I used them for daily use and found that after the first couple of burnouts you basically need to do a burnout everytime you drive or at least let them warm up. IMO I think they have a protective top layer and once you get past that you need to heat them up everytime you drive otherwise you'll be chirping or squealing every time you take off but they are great once warmed up.

RE: drag radials

I'm running 255 50 16 BFG drag radials on stock wheels. They stick like glue until they're worn out.

RE: drag radials

What Jack said. If your smoking nittos, you need some BFG DRs
for serious traction. My car dynoed 235 rwhp and through 373
gears on clean dry pavement I can just barely break'em loose.
BUT, they wear real fast.

RE: drag radials

Ok - I have a dumb question.

Did I actually read that some of you guys run drag radials as your everyday tires? Is this safe???

RE: drag radials

I do on all four corners. Why wouldn't it be safe, the rating is better and the traction is a hell of a lot better. Just can't drive in the snow. They're great in the rain as long as there is still tread left. Only down fall is how quickly they wear.

No, they wear quickly. I've only used them for about 8 months and then put the car away for the winter. The back tires are have almost no tread left. The front are good but when I rotate I doubt I'll get much more out of them than this year

RE: drag radials

For no more mileage I put on my '93, I plan to put DRs on all 4 corners when the time comes and rotate them as they wear the limited tread.

But since we are talking a major $$ investment, which seems to give the better mileage? BFG's or Nitto's? ::roll:: This may be a loaded question as mileage is not the only issue, obviously track use wears tread as well. Just looking for some feedback on longevity.

RE: drag radials

My BFG's make the car unsafe in the rain at any speed over 40 mph. I was on the interstate and drove into a rain storm at 80 mph. BIG MISTAKE! I spun out and went through the median and came to a stop with the front of the car in the inside lane of oncoming trafic. Nobody hit me and I was able to continue. I hate that short time when you realize that you've done something stupid and it's going to cost you your life.
