drilled air box

I did the the drilled air box mod. and then I noticed that I only see at night when my lights are on that some smoke starts to emit from there and I was wondering if this is normal now that I have it open. The smoke did not have much smell, but I am no mechanic so I am not sure what kind of smell if any it should be. Thanx and I also have a problem on the drivetrain section if you want to take a look there. thanx...late.

Um... that would make no sense since the air box sucks in air - and smoke.

The only thing I can think of that would smoke in that area would be the cruise switch thingy. If thats the case you want to go check it... now....

Well, the cruise control swith is kitty corner across the engine compartment, so more than likely that is not the source of the smoke. The only thing I can think of in the front right would be radiator related other than the air ride compressor.

The brake pressure switch on the '93 is on the firewall on the drivers side. That would not be the source.

Likely a PCV issue. Inspect the PCV valve and vacuum tubing.

How about the EGR tube? If it's cracked could the exhaust make its way out front?

I doubt it would make it via the air duct and the exhaust should not be 'smoky' where crankcase fumes will be.

....was it wet out that night? Its possible your brakes were wet and steaming, and when you stopped the steam simply rolled out under the front end? Magic smoke doesn't usually come out of your intake. Usually magic smoke means you just fried another amplifier.:mad:I don't like magic smoke. Good thing is it only comes out once....on electronics that is. Get a flash light after you see the smoke and turn off the motor and see if you can see the source with the hood up. If its smoking oil or coolant you should still be able to see it right after the motor is turned off. Its always better to start with the simple explanations before assuming the worst. You know, the opposite of what most mechanics at the stealerships do. Let us know what you find out.

a drilled air box is better than a conical right? I got a big cone filter, and when its warming up it hauls. ive talked to someone else who had a cone and ditched it for a drilled air box, he said cone filter spikes the maf, so you actually lose power - not to mention the hot air? i always assumed the unrestrictive flow outperformed the air temp... but hey if theres proof its the other way ill go with it, love to test it at the track.

its like every performance motor i usually see has a open ended mesh filter?
