E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

Hi Dad,

How's everything? I'm hanging in there. I've been doing pretty much the same thing I always do around here. We're working day on/next day off schedule. But even on the days we work we sit around twiddling our thumbs. I was able to go visit one of Saddam's palaces. It was really enormous--made almost completely with marble. I took plenty of pictures. I also got a string of chrystal beads for Joanie from one of the thousands of chandeliers in the palace. I will send it.

Thank you so much for the package of goodies. I know you were very thoughtful when you picked everything out. It came at just the right time too. Because my toilet paper had run out. All of those things will definately come in to good use. I'm glad you sent the camera, because the little disposable one didn't develop very good pictures. But I will send you some anyway, okay?

How's the girls doing? I sure do miss them. Tell them I love them for me. Say hi to Joanie. Say hi to Ralph. I love you.

James

James is my son. SFC, Special Forces, Rangers, US Army.
Joanie is my wife and soulmate, his stepmother, "Ralph is his
dog, half black lab and half rott, that he gave me three years ago.
He learned somewhere that an older man will live longer is he has
a dog to share his days with.
Bless His Heart! Ralph is my next to best Friend. (Joanie is best)

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

That many volunteered? LOL You sure about that? I would be more interested to hear about the culture and/or what the Iraquis themselves are like. Has he mentioned anything like that?

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

I'll remember James in my prayers along with my former Scouts, and all who are over there. God Bless them all!

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

Ron: I came back on the board after several weeks of debating whether it was worth it or not.
I decided that since there were so many great folks here, that I
would let your trashing of America go and try to get along.
I even sent you a return stating my intent "NOT" to engage in any flame war.
Ive been civil, coutorus, and clean.

However now, you have crossed the line.

No One attacks my son. Back Off Ron. Im worried about him, I pray for his safe return every night, and Ill be damned if I will
let some sorry little whinneyassed pussy like you say anything to
run him down.
In mny opinion, you should keep your views to yourself.
If you cant say anything good, please dont say anything.
This is my son you are talking about. I fear you do not really know Americans as well as you think you do.
As a matter of fact, I doubt if the other "Northern" folks on this board would back you up.

Thank You. Jack

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

Fuz,

My remark was tongue-in-cheek. Sorry you took it as being a personal attack or running him down,..afterall, I don't even know the guy..I reserve my personal attacks for people I know. I do appreciate your colourful epithets however. But unfortunately someone will whine about those words. So before anyone calls out the Morality Brigade, I WAS NOT OFFENDED BY A WORD WAZ FUZ SAID, SO DON'T DELETE HIS POST. Cheers...

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

Jack,

My prayers are with Your Son for a safe return home. My brother's Son JJ (James Jacob) leaves today for duty In Kosovo. He's assigned to be the Lt. Col. In charge of Eastern Kosovo's Driver and Personal body guard. He's been In training down In Savannah for a month and had last week off before He leaves. He stopped at the Shop yesterday to say good bye. I hugged Him and told Him to be safe. He's going to be there till February or March.

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

Jack,
Looks like you have a colorful life!!
I hope your son see's his family soon.
Thanks for posting that letter, thats a reminder to all of us.

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

I know you are proud! It takes a special person to become part of Special Forces.

There is nothing greater than having Children and it makes one feel good knowing they turned out how you wanted.

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

Jack, glad to hear your son's doing fine. Tell him to keep his head down and his power dry, there's still pockets of resistence over there and 80,000+ hard core criminals that Sadamn let out of prison two weeks before the War kicked off are causing lots of problems. These weren't political prisoners because he just killed them. Also Jack, tell you son how much we apreciated the 20 cent plus drop in gas prices here in the states with the first three weeks of the war. Even the liberals and Ron didn't complain about that! ;)

Bought some 93 Hi Test today for $1.39 a gallon :).

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

Thanx guys for the support.

I must make an apoligy to the lod members for my post to Rocket
made in anger.

At first I felt anger, frustrastion, and got my feelings hurt,
however, after sleeping on it and thinking about it at work today,
I realize that Ron is Ron, and is completely entitled to his thoughts
and opinons, even they are far remote from mine.

After all thats what our GI,s are fighting to preserve. And Im quite sure that if Canada got in the grease, we would be the first to
come and bail them out.
So please accept my apoligy, and I will refrain from further derogetory remarks.

Paul: Re: the WMD's, My Son says they got the "weapon". It was
Saddam himself. But yes they are looking.

We are anxiously awaiting his return. He has wife and four small
children. Its quite a chore for her.
We went to San Antonio last month and picked up the two middle kids.
Girls, two and four. Been having a blast, however I believe "Grandma"
has had her fix, and we will return them in a couple of weeks.
Again Thanx everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Best to all, Jack

:) :) :) :)

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

Just for the record, I love Canada and all of my awesome fellow citizens. Canada is my "original" homeland where I grew up and learned all about right and wrong, naughty and nice, free or not. Guys like me and Ron are really good stand up people, but our Canadian'isms sometimes come across differently than we may have intended.

Having said this, it was right after the crap hit the fan in Iraq that I was within inches of volunteering with the US armed forces. (Would have signed up with the Canadian Military, but they were abstaining). Only strong pleas from my wife stopped me from marching into a local U.S. Army recruiting office in Houston. I'm a 27 year old engineer, thus I may not have seen "action", but I imagined I could help out. If the hostilities had dragged on for a prolonged period, my wife would have understood my need to contribute.

I was disappointed in the way some of my fellow countrymen acted, (like some of Chretien's staff and their comments about Bush). That being said, theirs is a choice they must make, and I will always respect other people's opinions.

Many thanks to those who fight for our freedom, and by "our" freedom I mean all freedom loving peoples around the world, Canadians included.

Thank you Waz Fuz for raising children who understand what freedom is all about, and the prices we sometimes must pay to keep that freedom. Thanks also to any others who stand guard in "our" military complexes.

Best Regards to you all,
Eric "Canuck" Erickson

Fuz,

Hey man...don't ever apologize for showing your feelings, or for things you say. You are also entitled to YOUR opinion......cheers...

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

Jack, I hope your son returns home safe and sound. I thank him for serving our country.

Jack and Ron, I am glad that you can express your differences and still remain civil. That is the spirit of this club and board.

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

if i was allowed to join our armed forces, i would be over there with your son doing the right thing

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

Peter: Thanx for standing up for our Military,
hey If they would allow me, I would be there also.
Best, Jack

RE: E-Mail From Tikrit!!!

Thanks for posting his email, I don't know anyone serving in Iraq and can say that I really don't see this angle from the news...... the letter from a soldier to his family.
My best to him, you, and your family. You're in my prayers, and say thanks to him, from an LOD member.
