Easiest way to go to 4.5 hubs?

Ok i'm sure it's on here but i've spent an hour or so looking and i'm tired of it. i want to go to 4.5 hubs and know i need to use cobra hubs, but as far as brakes go i've got a few options from what i see. i can drill my current rotors to fit. i can convert everything over to cobra stuff for $$$$. but i haven't seen anything on here to where talking about GT rotors? can i use these and keep my stock calipers for now or or would i still need to change everything over?

The cheapest thing you can do while installing the hubs is drill the rotors over to 4.5. This will cost you about 20-40 at a machine shop per rotor. You'll be down about $80-160 closer to the lower # if you shop around.

If you want cobra brakes you need
2 New cobra/Mach 1 calipers for the front $200
4 cobra rotors $300 (for cheap ones)
2 rear brake relocation brackets. $90

Thanks max. Yeah I want to go cobra stuff but after the new front end, wheels, two tires, coilover kit, chirtmas, and a new pistol I'm straped for a few months. Also where can I get the relocation brackets from? And the rear rotors are the same size? I don't have to get brackets or anything for them?

The rear cobra rotors are larger in diameter. I think they are 11.57" vs the stock 10.5. You can certainly feel the difference. The rear cobra calipers on the other hand are no better and unfortunatly require you do create something crazy with the hand brake.

There used to be this guy in canada that made em... let me see if I can find his email... even with that you still have to grind your stock ones a bit to make everything fit.

Just found his name:
Email him and see if he still makes em... they are not cheap at $90 but it will be pretty much your only option.

Big Ed is still making them. I just had Ryan buy a set from him a couple months ago for my Mark's conversion. :)

Ok so I know this is an old post but contains most the information I am looking for. So if I want to change the hubs to 4.5 I would need 4 hubs from 19?? cobra? If I want I could just order cobra rotors that would be 4.5 without getting the calipers? I too am looking for a cheap solution for the hub swap. Any help would be appreciated.

99 Cobra :D

You can NOT use the Cobra rotors unless you do the entire brake swap. "Cheap" way to go is just buying the hubs and drilling out the Mark 8 rotors to the hub bolt pattern.

IMHO...if you're going to go out of your way to drill and modify, you might as well spend the extra 350 bucks to get the front calipers. You don't "need" the rear Cobra rotors so that will save you some money.

So if I am doing the rear and just switching out the hubs and drilling mark rotors to fit do I need the bracket?

exactly what I needed to know. Thanks

The rims part was the part that excited me.

Just to clarify....all you want to do is put some new rims on?

All you need to do is buy front and rear hubs (NOT the entire front brake set) and just drill your rotors. WAY cheaper than doing the brake swap if you just want nice rims.

So money is flowing slightly better than before so I want to do the upgrade in the front at least.

Any idea on where to get the ss lines? Or should I just file the caliper?

You don't need SS lines. You file the brake line BLOCK, not your caliper.

Heck, most of us don't NEED anything we do to our cars. :p

I think stainless lines are a good upgrade, especially if you're upgrading the brakes.

I got mine from Paragon Performance, as did Driller, on my recommendation. Call and talk to Don Roy. If you only want the fronts, I'm sure he'll do that.
