ECU tied into center diag?

During schooling at Ford ASSET's program, I faintly remember the technology in the Mark VIII about the databus.

Now I haven't torn into my car to much, yet. But I'd like to know two things:

- Will there be any problems swapping my EEC-IV ECU and harness out with an EEC-V ECU and engine harness? Sensors, wiring, tuning, etc I can handle. It's the question of the center data center being tied into these things, and how?

- Is there even a "databus" in these cars? And what exactly does it tie togather? Heard rumors the ECU can read the speed of the car if the VSS goes out by the ABS sensor for example. The reason I ask is now that I am experienced with tuning and building Cobras and GTs (modulars and 5.0s, as well as all sorts of GM bigblocks and mouse motors), I haven't seen or heard of this type of technology in the Mark VIIIs from these forums and with all of the highly custom swaps, blown, turbo'd, etc cars.

All I have is a 1996 shop manual and EVTM. So it's a little different then my 1995 Mark VIII. I haven't dug into the EVTM that far to figure it out. Thought I'd ask make a post and ask the experts about this 'databus' if it exists.

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Ps, I'll be deleting the center display when I install the touchscreen in the dash for the onboard P4 I'll be using for my MP3 system. Will be replaced with a center channel for the Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder I have with the Clarion DVD player. Already installed the 2200w system, hidden and full trunk space. ;) Yes, i custom build everything. :( Got too much time.

What's up Eric. I just posted on your board.

Welcome.

Why ditch the message center? It's so informative!! LOL!

That sounds like a nightmare project and a half.

Haha... It will be. But I can't imagine what you went through! :D

Thanks man for the warm welcome. I've seen the info on your car, and many other high strung Mark VIIIs around here over on that 'other' forum. I sure like it here better. :)

The message console doesn't "do it" for me. Besides, need a place for a really good center channel, which means two 4" drivers. That display area is perfect. And when I mold in the 8" touchscreen in place of the factory double-din area, I need a place to put the Clarion DVD/CD/FM player. The A/C control area looks perfect for that! And move the A/C controls up to other data center button area.

I just need to know if swapping harnesses (got a few around here, free for me) will screw with this "databus" if it exists. Cause I'll be converting the system over too EEC-V, so I use my software I've written to datalog it, like I did the Cobra. And tune it!
