Electric Cooling Fan

Since my PC is down I can't look up this stuff on my Ford CD. (on my semi stupid mac, but I could look into software that lets me run a PC program....I'll do that in the mean time)

At Carlisle I noticed a fuse was burnt out for the electric cooling fan on the town car. I replaced it and it hasn't blown again but it runs non-stop, even on a cold start.

So where is the sensor that triggers it (or is it controlled by the computer and one of the two sensors on the intake coolant crossover?) and when should it run?

The fan should run anytime the AC is on which is most of the time (except VENT and FLOOR).

Ah yes, I forgot about that. I'll turn it off to see if it makes any difference.

Come to think of it though, are all Fords like that? It seems like on my Cougar it still cycles even when the A/C is on.

I can't speak for all, but it seems to be the #1 functionality test of a FLM cooling fan. I know virtually every Town Car I've see, the fan will be on when it's sitting idling.

The fan will cycle on when the AC compressor cycles on. Just because you have the AC on does not mean the AC compressor is constantly running. Can't say about the town cars or other fords but most computer control modern cars after you are traveling above a set speed the fan will not come on.
