Does anyone run synthic oils in there car if so whats the best oil out there to use I think I wanna switch mine over to synthic but there are a lot of different types like amzoil, pennzoil, valvoline, red line, and royal purple.

RE: Engine Oil

I think if you did a survey on this site, I think you'd find that most run 5-30 Mobile 1. I've been using it for a very long time, on a number of different vehicles. I continue to use Mobile 1 in my F250 diesel. 135,000 on it now and running strong. I pull a 30' fifth wheel with it. Between the Mobile 1 and the Banks turbo Kit, it just keeps running. Used it in the previous car before the Mark (87-T-Bird with the V6). Traded it in with almost 250,000....

RE: Engine Oil

Is it better to switch to something like Mobile 1 if I have not been using it. I have been useing motorcraft 5w-30. Just about due to change it, but not sure if there will be an advantage to changing over.

RE: Engine Oil

I use the AMSOIL 0W30. It seems to be a little better for the cooler climates up here in Minnesota. AMSOIL sells a flush as well that you dump in with your first oil change when you switch, or maybe it's before you switch. I can't remember, been a little while since i've needed it. If you have any questions about AMSOIL, feel free to give me a holler and I'll do what I can to answer.

RE: Engine Oil

Mobil 1 is great, 5-30 in the winter, 10-30 in the summer down here in Florida. Couldnt ask for more. If you have not switched, I suggest you do, and safely change the oil every 7,500-10,000 miles.

RE: Engine Oil

Thanks for the help guys I will try to get amzoil first and if I can't get it then I will use mobil 1

RE: Engine Oil

Speaking of oil changes.....

How many of you follow the oil change recommendations of the computer, and how many go by the traditional X months/X miles?

If anyone knows how the computer determines its oil change interval, I would be greatly appreciative.

For the record...I run Mobil 1 with a motorcraft filter (couldnt find a Mobil 1 filter).

From the manual:

---------------------------

Oil Life Warning System (CHANGE OIL SOON or OIL CHANGE REQUIRED)

Normal Operations

The oil life feature uses the oil temperature sensor input, the tachometer input from the ignition control module (ICM), the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) input and clock time to calculate the percentage of oil life left. The oil life will decrease from 100 percent to 0 percent in no more than 12,000 km (7,500 miles) or 6 months. If will reach zero percent sooner under different driving conditions. The percentage of oil life left is the second display in the system check sequence. When oil life left is between five percent and zero percent, the "CHANGE OIL SOON" message will be displayed. When oil life left reaches zero percent, the "OIL CHANGE REQUIRED" message will be displayed.

---------------------------------

BTW, I go by the message center as far as oil changes go(based on the information given). Some may say the 7,500 miles may be extreme, but I would say the mileage would be significantly less for spirited drivers.;)

It would be interesting to know what the oil life 'program' looks like though.

RE: Engine Oil

Hey guys well I switched the LSC over to synthic and whoa I noticed a hugh difference on how the car runs and it is much quiter and smoother!!! Oh I used valvoline synpower this stuff is awsome!! I did some homework on the oil and there are alot of poeple that love it and now I am one more it really works good!! Also since it was brought up about the computer telling you to change oil in the car I have a question about it. On the computer you can change the percentage setting for something 40% 60% 80% and 100%. What I wanted to know is does anyone know what millage the computer will roughly give you for each of the percentage settings? Thanks

RE: Engine Oil

ROYAL PURPLE. Been running it for 2 days now. It says it gives you horsepower 1-3% gain. Ive noticed a HUGE increase in gas mileage and quiter valve ticks. Its nice to know you cand beat the tar out of your engine when you have synthetic. give RP a shot, its the stuff

RE: Engine Oil

Do you guys really switch oil 7500-10,000 miles with Mobil 1? I have been using 5w30 and changing the oil every 3-5k miles...

RE: Engine Oil

When I used Mobil 1, I changed the oil every 3-5k miles. Now I use Amsoil. It's actually cheaper for me to use Amsoil changing it ever 7500 miles.

I am a fairly spirited driver and my computer tells me to change the oil every 5,000 miles.

Spirited driver? I'm not sure I wrote down the mileage at the last oil change, but I believe it was less than 2000 miles ago and it was back this March or April. I just started get the 'Oil Change Required Soon' message on the way home from the track last weekend.

What I don't get in mileage I make up for in spirit! }(

I guess I'm not that spirited. The pedal sees the floor in my car about once every 20 miles. Maybe I'm getting old, and dare I say...conservative.
