Engine swap

I was wondering if it is possible to put a cobra engine into a 1998 Mark VIII LSC? Would you have to buy other parts to make it fit or work. Like would you have to get a whole different tranny or could you use the Mark VIII's tranny with the cobra engine?

RE: Engine swap

A member on here named Phreaknes has a 2nd Gen that did this, hope he sees your post.

Not sure about the second gens hood clearances, or engine bay clearances, as ive never seen the tranny area on one, but I had a 2001 SVT Cobra motor installed in my 1995 Mark VIII. Things that have to be changed or modded to make it happen for the old style.

Use throttle cables from the Cobra. i used a billet blockoff for the EGR valve because im not using one anymore.
Cobra alternator and new top bracket.(Mark8s wont fit it.)
Cobra waterpump.
Change over from the Mark 8 flywheel to the Cobra flywheel.
Modify the baffles in the stock mark 8 oil pan to be used on Cobra engine to clear the K member.
Have another sensor bung welded into your metal radiator top crossover for the Mark8's wire harnes. My Cobra crossover pipe only had one sensor fitting. Flaming river yoke on steering shaft if you decide to go the headers route.
If you decide to use the coil on plug setup that came with the Cobra youll need the Cobra wiring harness for that. If youre going to go this route id grab a second gen mark 8 OBD2 compter and harness and get the chip burned for that COP so you retain all the Mark 8 extras in the EEC that the Cobra doesnt have.
I kept my factory Mark8 coilpacks and wires. You will have to modify the COP covers with little cutouts and radiused corners so they dont cut into the wires(see pic).
An SCT chip and tune to make use of your more aggressive intake cams. It bolts right up to a stock Mark 8 tranny, but since then ive upgraded to a Art Carr Extreme unit with bigger stall.
Make some hood clearance by removing the fiberglass insulation under factory hood to clear the throttle cables and intake that sits higher that the Mark 8's.
I am still using the factory mark8 fuel rails but eventually will be running with braided lines and Aeromotive FPR and gauge and billet rails.

RE: Engine swap

ok this brings up s question i was gonna ask in the non mark section. i was wondering about putting a 99 crown vic motor into a 93 marquis, question was how would i go about making the wiring work. can i just swap the coil packs onto the cop motor?
