Explanation and Cost

As many know, I'm a computer guy not a mechanic. So, as I had my car up the lift getting its tranny fluid drained I did a walk around of the suspension.
Seems the rubber is worn and torn around the horizontal arms by the wheels as well as the vertical arms rubber that run up toward the air suspension struts. Not sure what these are called I think lower control arms and not sure what the others are.
How much shoud it cost to get this fixed since. Parts?
I'm hearing that clickity sound when going over uneven roads.
Thanks

The "clickity" sound is usually the strut rod bushings, but it could be other issues. The best route is to rebuild the entire front end at once.

1) front & Rear strut rod bushings. (Only buy the ford parts on this)
2) lower control arms (buy the ones from 1997 Super coupe tbird. It is the same part and costs less). For some reason they cost less but are identical.
3) upper control arms
4) sway bar End links
5) sway bar bushings

You can look up pricing at Rock auto. Another option is to order from Max at 5-star (quotes are free). I would recommend buying all Genuine ford, but but Moog or TRW is acceptable. You can also buy everything at Super Coupe. Probably $400 for the parts and a full day of mechanic time. Also will need a full realignment.

I would say do it yourself, but we all know your wrenching skills.

You can just as well just replace the parts that need replacing, but most people who have MArk never seem happy when they do it 1 part at a time. Plus, you technically have to get an alignment every time.

I forgot....you live in Texas which means no rust. Our Yankee cars take twice as long to work on because of it.

Living in Florida for many years, I remember the old rust-proofing the cars. Zbart (sp) and Rusty Jones were big back then.

Yes def get Ford parts, I got the cheap ones and i really regret it, there is a lot of noise up there still. Also make sure you get the Ford lower controll arm to-frame bolt (has the oblong washers and holds your camber in place) as the Moog ones are apparently too small and will slide around a little.

Moog/TRW parts and bushings are the way to go for strength and durability and guarantee except for the Strut Rod bushings. Moog SRB are junk and dont last too long. go to Ford for those.

:D

Actually, scratch that, turns out the clunking noise when I turned was from the inner front sway bar mount bolts being loose. Guess I didn't quite torque those down right when I replaced the bushings. Now it's as quiet as a mouse at midnight.
