Can the factory phone in these cars still be hooked up or is there any way to integrate my cell phone with the factory phone set up

The factory phones were all analog. They are pretty much obsolete in today's digital world. Locally here, we lost all analog service when AT&T took over one of the local carriers.

i think you can still use them on calling cards but its rediculous on price. someone posted not more than a year ago saying he can still use his but it cost like 6 bucks a minute or something stupid like that!

Does anyone think i could splice the phone cord from the car phone into one for my cell phone and make it work.

NO...the new phones use a different antenna impedence...... Just take old phone out completely and sit your present one in there. Old phones were LARGE!

I just went to Canal St. (anyone from NYC knows that that is the electronics headquarters of the area) on Wednesday and spoke to several very knowledgeable people about this exact issue. The anlog / digital problem mentioned by others above is spot on. You may be able to "pre-pay", however it is prohibitavely expensive and has unreliable service. Hold onto the phone itself for resale of the car in the future, but otherwise, it is basically a boat anchor.

depending on the area.. you MIGHT still find an analog carrier.. they are few and far between... IF they even exist anymore.
Try google.

It may be possible to find some sort of wiring diagram and then find if there is some sort of audio wire that you could rig so that you can plug it into your current phone. I my self used a wire that plugs into the "aux in" via rca plugs then used an ipod type wire with an in line mic so that I can talk through it. this worked fine but then I purchased a radio with bluetooth.
