Failed emissions test

Misanthropy

Information Junkie
So I went to get the car smogged today. Failed CA smog.....

15 MPH, 1430 So here is where I failed under HC: Max allowed 81 Measured 81 (barely passed on this) Then at 25 MPH and 1800 RPM I had 79 measured and the max allowed was 47.

Any one willing to help me trouble shoot please ?:)

Only new transmission. I just replaced the dpfe, egr, transmission, vacuum regulator. and some lines. Have new Iac and TPS, but didn't put those on. Just replaced the spark plugs, wires and coil packs also.

I'm not sure when the oxygen sensors were replaced before I baught it, if ever. It's at 162k. The driver side precat is hollowed out and the resonator after the actual cat is taken out. Then it goes to 2 flowmaster mufflers.

The guy at smog shop said "run some guaranteed to pass through it and try again, if it doesn't work then you will know it's time to spend money"

There is no "PRECAT" on the drivers side, it's a REAL catalytic converter! It looks like you'd better replace the exhaust manifold/cat on that side.

Ugg, Looks like it. That sucks because I just got laid off. Nice settlement check though. Any chance you know if only Summit sells that piece for a good replacement? Or maybe I should get a cheaper replacement from max?

I will need to drop the k-member for this I am guessing.

Might be cheaper to take it to a muffler shop (or a welder) and cut the pipe off above and below the cat and weld in a generic cat.

Awesome man, I was thinking that but I didnt know how far up it went. I might get that done today!!! Thanks again sir.

This is one of the reasons for this site!! Not a problem...hopefully, you'll be able to help out someone else!

I am going there for new cat today. 100 bucks for the cat dunno bout the labor. I got 2 flows and resonator cut out last time was 200. He is going to put the cat in after the hollowed out one. Might not look the best but it works!

Its 100 is there installed price. $200 isn't bad, you should have had me call first though!

It ended up being the center cat that was actually broken, choking my exhaust and the obvious cause of my failed emissions test. He installed a 2 to 1 pipe cat and that helped. Only 147 out the door.

Wow...should end up with a decent performance boost as well.

Awesome Jarrod....you're saving a ton of money with all my help! You better buy me lunch next time I'm up there! :D

You pointed him in the right direction but according to post 11, I get lunch. :)
