Fast idle

My car is idling at 1,000 rpm. I give it alittle gas and it stays at 1,500 rpm for atleat 5 seconds. Could it be the tps?

Very likely the IACV(Idle Air Control Valve). First check for any obvious air leaks in the intake tube path past the MAF in the air filter box.

The Gen1 IACV is a bear to get to. Remove the throttle body to make it easier to gain access.

I took the TB off to get to the IACV like you said. I noticed the linkage that the throttle cable clips onto was bent toward the TB, so I was thinking it might have been rubbing on that rubber oval gasket, I bent it back. I took the TB off cleaned it and put it back on. The car will idle now and it doesnt stick at any rpm. But now it stumbles when I give it throttle from idle. My oval gasket that goes on the top of The TB and on the air tube is junk, I got another one and put it on but it still stumbles. What do you think?
Thanks,
Matt

Wonders if someone didn't try and turn down the idle using the throttle stop screw on the throttle body...
If so, that could cause an "off idle" stumble.

note: idle control is accomplished BY the PCM using the IAC, you shouldn't have to adjust the throttle stop screw, unless it was "fiddled with by a shadetree mechanic".

The stop screw has not not been moved to my knowledge, like I said it would fast idle "1,000 rpm", id give it gas and it would not stumble it would just stick at 1,500 rpm when I let off then it would slowly go back to 1,000. Then I cleaned the TB, and bent the TB linkage straight. Now it idles fine and does not hang at 1,500 rpm, it just stumbles bad when i give it throttle from idle. Hey l liked the shadetree mechanic show.
