Fattest Possible Rear Tire?

What is the largest tire I can fit under the back end of my Mark? I know the 275s are popular, but what about 295 or 305??? This will be an 18" tire on a 36-49mm offset wheel if that matters.

And can anyone attest for fitment when fully aired out???

RE: Fattest Possible Rear Tire?

Well i'm running 18 inch rims with 245s 45 18 tires, they rub occasionally on the outside of the bumper. This is with the 36mm offset. Now i have 9 inch wide rims so i'm sure i'll be able to put 275s on there but i'm sure those would rub even more especially if the car is lowered. Well i don't think you can put 295 on 18s in the back there unless you modify your bumper.

Hmmm. Five years of messages on this and our old forum and that's the most definitive answer I can get? C'mon guys...

I find it odd that the 245s rub. Are you talking about up front or out back?

Sorry i can't help more. My 245/50's on stock rims don't rub, even when slammed, but they come damn close.

RE: Fattest Possible Rear Tire?

i cant think of his name ( i wanna say its tony) but the guy w/ the 93 i think tbird that has a mini tbird trailor has 295 in the rear w/ no problem and joe(ponyfreak) if you see his post bought selling his wident stock rims say he has 295 too, i think its possible go down to a used tire shop and see if they have 295 and try them on

RE: Fattest Possible Rear Tire?

Well... its in the rear. But I know there are people running 17x9 with 275 also that person stated that the tire would rub if it would be lowered.

RE: Fattest Possible Rear Tire?

I have 275's on 17x9 rims with a 36mm offset. They originally rubbed over bumps but a fender roll took care of that. You can fit much more then 275 just have to put the tire on the inside of the car insted of offsetting out. The with the cirrect backspacing I'm sure you can fit 295's with no mods and probably 315's with minor sway bar mods. It's all about the backspacing.
