Hi All,
My name is Randy, I've been a Ford fanatic for many years. I've owned 2 69 Mach 1's, 92 SHO, 85 Cougar XR7, 2003 F350 SD. I currently own a 91 Mustang GT (10.53 @ 130), 1986 Mustang GT (Soon to be son's car) and a 1985 Mustang GT (Soon to be Wife's race car).
As a car nut and part-time drag racer, I'm always checking out the latest magazines. In one particular edition, I remeber seeing "Animal Jim's" Mark VIII, I was absouletly stunned by that car, its styling blew me away, I always wanted one ever since.
With a total of 4 cars, I recently found myself needing a daily driver. I was looking at the sensible choices and was having a hard time deciding on what to get, when my wife said, "you should get something fun". The first car I thought of was the Mark VIII, I hadn't even considered it until she said those 5 words.
I wasn't really thinking that the Mark VIII would be fun, in terms of fast, or handling, but a nice ride that was unique and had sharp looks. I had read about how the Mark VIII's are fast, handled good etc., but fast to me is 9.0 @ 150.
Anyway, my hunt for a clean Mark VIII began. I can tell you all this, your choices for Mark VIII's in Denver are slim & none. I began to look nationwide, but still, I had to have a "clean" vehicle, mileage didn't really matter, just so long as it was well taken car of.
I found a 98 CE with 90K, in SC at a dealership. I was very excited. The day before I was to send a depsoit and schedule my flight, someone purchased the car. I spent another month looking until I finally found what I was looking for, a 98 LSC, Black / Grey with 60K miles. I was so eager to purchase the car, I sent a deposit immediately and booked my flight to Tennesse.
I flew out, the seller met me at the airport. I looked the car over, it looked great, the body was perfect, not a single "ding" anywhere. A couple of small scratches and a small area where the paint had oxidized a little on the top.
As we were at the airport, I couldn't really go test drive anywhere, so I just bought it, right there. I hopped in, and started on my 1200mi journey home.
As I drove, it started to get dark, so I turn on the headlights, what's this, no dash board lights ? I was kinda bummed, it was raining really hard, thick clouds etc. I was wondering if the headlights work, would I have to stop for the day just 2hrs after buying my new car ?
I continued on, with the storm dumping rain, when suddenly the dash lights came on. I realized it was a sensor that turn the dash lights on due to the darkness, what a releif. A little later the rain stopped, I thought finally, now I can get on it and see what its got for power. I hit the gas from about 65, within what seemed a few seconds, I looked at the speedo to see I was approaching 100mph. I was really surprised, it didn't feel like I was going that fast, it was smooth.
The car was performing great, so I started pushing it a little through turns, wow, it handles great too, not even the slightest amount of body roll !
Well, to make a long story end soon, I had so much fun driving my new mark, I simply could not bring myself to pull over and get a room for the night, I drove straight through from Nashville, TN to Denver, Co. 1200 miles in 16 hrs. !
I got home, slept for 3 hours, woke up and hoped in my mark and went for a ride !
I love this car ! Great power and unbeleiveable handling and all the creature comforts.
I'm soo happy I bought this car, now the wife is thinking that she'd like one too, and I can't wait to get another one !
