Finally found the strange noise my car has been making

For the past couple weeks I've been having this real strange noise coming from under the car only on acceleration, goes away when car is idling. Had it at the mechanics today and he found and fixed the problem, Cost me almost $500 but he says these bearings are expensive and the muffler also has to be replaced in the process !! He must have been right, no more noise !!
Oh, he gave me the part that ended up being the problem, you guys might want to make sure to have these bearings replaced on a regular basis !!

Here's the parts that the mechanic replaced, he called them muffler bearings:[/b]

Yup those are the ones. Probably a lack of LBOW GREASE.

Why does a muffler need a bearing? or is this some joke I am missing?

One of the oldest jokes in the book, right up there with mechanics telling customers they were low on blinker fluid and also telling them they had to remove the "summer air" in the tires and replace it with "winter air" (although I have never personally told anyone those things .......)

Karl - it looks like you need some more of that special oxidation coating for your mufflers!

I never trusted mechanics who wore gloves, especially latex!LOL!

The bearing looks alright. How many miles on the car? The muffler is another story. Salt sucks.

True story... working at our shop, we needed a large C-clamp. I sent the tool room boy to get me a large C-clamp. He asked, "What size?", and I replied "An 8 inch will be big enough". I saw him returning a few moments later carrying a couple large C-clamps. As he came closer he explained what took so long:

"We didn't have any 8 inch, but I found these adjustable ones!"

I just had my muffler bearings replaced, so I'm good to go.. but I was told I need a new pair of radiator return springs, and a Knuter valve. The valve is supposed to be cheap, but I have been searching for the radiator return springs on FPN, and at Five-star with no results.

If anyone knows a good source for these, let me know. Oh, and BTW, I already have 2004 air in all my tires, and recently had my lug nut gasgets replaced.

You might want to get some crossdrilled and vented brakelines while you're at it!
