Finally some BIG pics of my stereo

Sorry aboutthe size, I'll try to resize them tonight.

I would have had these up earlier, but it appears cal deleted my websoace 2 months early, so I had to get new webspace with the new LOD. I've been having some problem setting it up but hopefully these work...

The door panels in the pics are my old junkers hence the reason they look like crap and have drips of glass on them. I'm not totally happy with the imaging, so I'm not going to butcher the new nicer panels until I'm totally done. ALthough I'm tempted to just build a whole door from scratch, it'll give me some thing to do this spring. The pics are kinda rough, cheap camera. The color is poor, or you could see my custum painted interior. Also the pods aren't totally done, I just spray painted them a close enough color to satisy me for the time being.

The trunk took a while cause I kept changing my mind. I am pleased with the final arrangement, as the multi-level effect is cool. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the black amp is at a 30 degree angle. The glow from the LED's on the distro block is so cool at night, Ill probably add some neons to it. The entire display is covered by the spare tire cover, but that pic didn't turn out for some reason.

The amprack will eventually be covered in either carpet or fiberglass, but not anytime soon. my back still hurts from being in the dang trunk for 2 days...:)

WOW.

Very nice DJ. That is pretty much exactly what I am trying to do with my set-up. I'll be satisfied if mine comes out half as nice as those!!

RE: Finally some BIG pics of my stereo

Yeah the pods are pretty big, but the whole point of the project was that I didn't have to do surgery to the doors. If I were to sell the car i could just take the pods off, screw in the map pocket and be done. Plus I had to take out the speaker grills, so I had to make the pod big enough to extend over the gaping whole left by them. If I don't remake them next year, I think I will vynal over the whole door so there aren't so many rough edges.

Doing this project was more of a learning process than a serious venture into stanging and whatnot. I had an idea in my head of what I wanted to do, but soon into the project I realized it wasn't going to work. I was kind of on a time constraint (i.e. wife yelling at me I have one weekned to get it right cause she's sick of the house smelling like fiberglass) so I improvised the rest of it. I made a lot of mistakes that took a long time to fix, and many that I just couldn't fix without redoing them all. If I only remake ther pods and not the whole door, I can gauruntee they will look a hell of a lot better. At least they sound awesome. The midrange really came alive when placed on axis. with the midbass sealed tthey are nice and punchy, but I might open them up to get them lower. The overall soundstage is a few inches low, but I can deal with that for now. I wouln't be competing anytime this year anyways.

As for the trunk, paul your box does look a hell of a lot better. My original plan was for two solos which is how the box is made (1.5 cubes for each) But I never bought the second one since I wanted to get a better sub, but then couldn't afford the better sub. (at least not yet) My first design for the amprack was competly different. the XO's and distro block were origanaly going to be built into the sides of the trunk. But as I played with it a few dozen times and with amanda's creativity assisting I came up with the design now used. I love the multiple angles and everything it looks a lot better than some POS disposable camera can show.

Next project will be a new sub. I was planning on a 15 XXX in IB, but after talking with the techies at RE, I don't think it will be able to handle the power while in IB. I'm going to see about getting an 18" XXX on the rear deck, maybe in a plexi box, maybe even ported (somewhere nice and low for SQ) Or maybe I'll stick with the 15. We'll see.

RE: Finally some BIG pics of my stereo

after you mentioned doing the IB thing the 1st time it got me thinking about mounting my sub somewhere on the rear deck as well. i dont want to do the IB thing though. would it be possible to mount a box just below the rear deck kind of suspended below the sub or would that be too much weight on the deck?

i got to thinking about this because this trunk of ours really eats up the bass. u can even hear the difference going from the front seats to the rear seats. i figure it'd be cheaper in the end since i wouldnt need a 2nd sub or the 1600 watt amp, i could just keep the 800 ive got going to the single sub now.

RE: Finally some BIG pics of my stereo

im going to go IB with the IDMAX, still have to buy amps tho.

I also want to find a way to keep it "out of sight, out of mind" and out of direct sunlight...

RE: Finally some BIG pics of my stereo

You'll definatly want to beef up the rear deck one way or another. All it is is some thin metal which rattles like crazy. If I go with a box, I would design it so the bottom sits flush with the floor and the top is right where the deck is now. I'll probably have bobby gatley build me a plexi box so you can still see the magnat and all that pretty stuff, and I'll carpet the top of it to look like a normal rear deck. If I go with wood (plexi can get expensive) I'll carpet the trunk part for more of a stealthy install (at least until you lift the spare tire cover.)

Ther only thing that worries me is having a big ass sub pointed right at the rear window where most marks already have sealing problems. I dunno if insurance would cover my rear window being blown out while driving (it was a rock, honest, it just chased me through the streets and hit me from behind...)

RE: Finally some BIG pics of my stereo

I was worrying about precisely the same thing as well.
I wish I had fold down seats...Now that would be good mod...

ok. Where are the new pics? I want to see how you got the pods to not look like crap.

RE: Finally some BIG pics of my stereo

Is there any reason why you are pulling up posts I made over a year ago to ask stupid questions? Not that you care but one of my amps blew in april and I have not replaced it. All my stereo is sitting in the garage. So I'm sorry that I have not had time to make pods to your beautification standards.
