first time mark 8 owner in need of help

94 Mark 8

Registered
I just bought my first mark 8 yesterday. my first car was a towncar and im a huge lincoln fan, i have a 94 mark 8 with 130,000 miles i just paid 1600 for. seemed like a great deal which i still believe is a good deal, but im noticing a few problems. when i hit a bump any bump big or small i hear a loud thud coming from the passenger side rear tire. when i looked at it today the shock was loose, i went to advance to get a new shock only to find out the guy at advance knew about as much about it as i did he had no clue what kind i needed nor did they carry the part i need... i dont wanna go replacement route id like to keep it original with the correct air ride shock, any suggestions on what shock to buy and where i can find it?
I also have some electical problems, my brake lights dont work, windshield washers dont work, and stereo dont work... i tested all the fuses and replaced the bad ones, and still nothing. the tester shows that the wiring is bad not the fuse... the fuses that have bad wiring are fuse # 3 and # 16... can anyone help with the rewiring process, any help will be greatly appreciated, i love the car very much and cant wait to get the car drivable so i can begin to enjoy my mark 8... i first fell in love with the mark 8's when i was selling cars and traded for a 93 mark 8 at the lot and drove it for 3 days as my demo car thats when i decided to start a search for my own, so im really anxious to get the car on the road...
thanks alot...

The thud is probably not a bad shock. The shock mounts are a common item to make noise at the mileage you're at.

Pull the shock covering inside the truck and have someone look at the mount while another person bounces the car. If the shock post or bracket looks like it is moving, then the mount is bad.

It's almost certainly your problem. I believe the mount is a dealer only item, however it is still cheap and fairly easy to replace.
