Went out to Houston Raceway Park for the first TNT session for 2008.
Weather was great
Baro 30.1
Humidity 30%
Temp 64 which fell to 47 before the end of the night.

I had one hour cool down between runs.
I haven't changed anything in the car except some minor changes in the tune.
I changed the shift points a very little, and pulled a little more fuel out of the tune.

Since I am in need of new rear tires I didn't really think I would be able to show an improvement in ET, but I went out there none the less.

First pass was an instant dissapointment, I spun on the hit and cut a paltry et due to the "spinnage".

60 - 2.34 (spun)
330 -6.27
1/8 -9.42@78.66MPH
1000 - 12.13
1/4 - 14.43 @98.10MPH

Second pass one hour later
Since I had spun with 35 lbs in the rear tires I dropped it to 33 to see if there was "any improvement"

60 - 2.202(lightly spun)
330 -6.133
1/8 -9.294 @78.43MPH
1000-12.008
1/4 - 14.30@98.17

Since taking 2 lbs out of the rears apparently helped, I decided to take 3 more lbs out to see if I could improve any further.
I dropped the rears down to 30 PSI and waited for my hour cool down.

60-2.13 (no spin)
330-6.036
1/8-9.18@78.70
1000-11.894
1/4 - 14.18 @98.33

I made these runs with a full tank of gas, a full sized spare and my toolbox in the trunk. (roughly 100lbs of crap) since I went alone and the place was packed I didn't have any place to "dump my trunk".

I dont know if the additional weight HELPED my aging street tire HOOK or if I would have continued to have traction issues had I removed that 100lbs from the rear of the car.

I have been running my Beltronics FX-1 Peformance meter and comparing it to my timeslips. I have had good luck getting the Gmeter to accurately match my timeslips.
So far it's been fairly accurate

For instance compared to my first run GM=Gmeter TS=Timeslip
GM = a 2.35 60' TS said 60' 2.34 (.01 error)
GM = a 6.25 330' TS said 330' 6.27(.02 error)
GM = a 9.40 1/8th TS said 9.42 (.02 error)
GM =12.12 1000' TS said 12.13 (.01 error)
GM =14.40 1/4 TS said 14.43 (.03 error)

My previous outing to the track the Gmeter said I made
191HP average with a 248HP peak at 82 MPH
the 14.43 run the Gmeter said I made
193HP average with a 244HP peak at 52MPH (1-2 shift is right at 52MPH so this is a false spike caused by the 1-2 shift)...more on that later...keep reading.

My second run:
GM=2.20 60' TS=2.202 (.002 error)
GM=6.15 330' TS=6.133 (.017 error)
GM=9.32 1/8 TS=9.294 (.026 error)
GM=12.08 1000' TS=12.008 (.072 error)
GM=14.43 1/4 TS=14.30 (.13 error)
HP measured
185HP average with a 235 peak at 52 MPH (again 1-2 shift caused a false spike)

Third run:
GM=2.12 60' TS=2.139 (.019 error)
GM=6.00 330' TS=6.036 (.036 error)
GM=9.15 1/8 TS=9.187 (.0187 error)
GM=11.82 1000' TS=11.894 (.074 error)
GM=14.12 1/4 TS=14.18 (.06 error)
HP measured
196 average with a 250HP peak at "84"MPH!
This says the car "pulled harder" at 84MPH than it did on the 1-2 shift that caused the previous "false spikes at 54"!

So overall by pulling a little more fuel out of the PCM my HP went from
191 avg to 196 avg (5HP average increase)
248 peak to 250 peak (2HP average increase)

Overall I am very pleased.
I knocked off a little from my previous best, car is really "hauling the mail" on the big end!

I used my dyno sheet to calibrate the Gmeter initially to get me into the ballpark
Then after roughly 200 passes I "fudged" the roll out numbers until I got the Gmeter to be "very close" to what the timeslips said.
While this isn't "scientific" by anymeans, I now have the Gmeter pretty accurately calibrated to reflect real world numbers.

These Beltronics Gmeters are very cheap and easy to set up..with a little bit of trial and error and some comparative runs at the track they can be adjusted to reflect very close to what your actual ET is.

I've been using it on the street to "judge" if my calibration changes are having a positive or a negative affect on performance.
SO FAR, I'm pleased!

JP... my third run is a new best for me, if your still reading this far down this novel.. can you update the "quickest list".
new et 14.18@98.33
not enough to "move me up a spot" but..it is my new best!

Nice runs Tommy! :)

I think you're getting a lot closer to that 13 second NA club. ;)

Thanks JP!

the first two runs were "crap" as I spun..but the third one hooked good and made me wish I "had dumped my trunk"....always sumthin' huh..haha

Getting closer each visit to the track!

Congrats on the new best, your car is pulling a good MPH however it's only gaining ~20mph from the 1/8th to the 1/4 mile. I think you maybe running too much timing although that's just a guess I don't know exactly what you have done with your tune.

historically speaking my car has always ONLY picked up 20MPH from the 1/8th to the 1/4.

I'm talking from when my car was bone stock w/307 gears and no tune... til now w 373's and "ANY" tune I have ever had.

When I was running Jerry's Chip I still only got 20MPH between the 1/8th and the 1/4.

Look thru most of the posts here with other peoples cars, and you'll see the same 18-21MPH gain from the 660-1320.

you have to run low 11's in the 1/4 or high 10's before you run 25 MPH gain between the 1/4 and the 1/8th mile.

then go to dragtimes.com and search "ford mustang".
You'll see just what I described above.
you have to run DEEP 11's or 10's and then you only pick up 24 or so MPH.

look at your own timeslips and show me where you picked up "more than 20"???

Do the same with Ford Lightnings search dragtimes.com
.. even the supercharged trucks struggle to gain more than 20 MPH until they get DEEP into the 11's.

14.18@99.33 is my lowest ET, not my fastest MPH.

My fastest MPH happened on a 14.21 pass where I went 80 in the 1/8th and 100.99 in the 1/4.

Below is one of JP/Drillers runs from SSHS7
LEFT(Impala) / RIGHT(Mark VIII)
DIAL - 13.99 / 13.8
R/T - 0.154 / 0.128
60' - 2.124 / 1.979
330' - 5.828 / 5.713
1/8 - 8.886 / 8.848
MPH - 80.04 / 78.50
1000' - 11.636 / 11.576
1/4 - 14.038 / 13.875
MPH - 94.62 / 97.95
Left First 0.0011

he only picked up 19.45 between the 1/8th and the 1/4 on his 13.87 run.
Then look at his oppoents MPH's..
80.04 1/8th and 94.62 in the 1/4 =14.58MPH increase between the 1/8th and the 1/4 mile.

Those cars are much faster than mine.. and picking up LESS mph between the 660' and the 1320'.

Again another of JP's passes...same result

LEFT(Mark VIII) / RIGHT(Impala)
DIAL - 13.85 / 13.75
R/T - 0.252 / -0.007
60' - 1.974 / 1.895
330' - 5.753 / 5.673
1/8 - 8.897 / 8.843
MPH - 78.21 / 77.87
1000' - 11.618 / 11.593
1/4 - 13.907 / 13.931
MPH - 98.75 / 96.25

JP hit dead on 20MPH, his opponent only got 19.

Again, using JP for an example on his BYE run where he would NOT have hit the brakes.

BYE RUN
DIAL - 13.9
R/T - 0.229
60' - 1.985
330' - 5.713
1/8 - 8.850
MPH - 78.26
1000' - 11.574
1/4 - 13.871
MPH - 98.34

I think you maybe running too much timing .

all of the gains I have made in my tune have been SOLEY transmission functions and changes to the "base fuel table".
(quickening up the shifts and removing the UBERFAT fuel from the top end)

I have not added a single degree of timing to any of my race tunes....YET.
I have added some timing to my street tunes in the part throttle areas, but as of yet.. none to WOT.

wasn't that the 2.12 60' pass where you said the "60 foot was crappy"?

the reason I ask is because .1 worth of wheel spin could easily artificially inflate your MPH on that run.

Did you run 101+ on more than just that run?
{meaning it wasn't a fluke tire spin that artificially increased your MPH?)

can you post the timeslip, I want to compare not only the "incremental times" but also the "split times"..

I've found comparing the Split times can tell ALOT about a particular pass.

For instance.. split times from the 60-330 will tell you how well your 1-2 shift is working.
looking at the split times from the 330-660 will tell you how well the 2-3 shift is working..and so on.

Have you used split times to see if your shift points are correct or could be tweaked to better utilize your HP?

I am NOT doubting you or your car, I just want to compare some notes based on my incrementals and split times, compared to your incrementals compared to split times.

Did that make sense?

FWIW... on my best time slip...

100_3279.jpg

... I went from 81.63 to 104.52 with no tire spin - 22.89 mph, almost the same as 46callaway's 23 mph.

thinking about it all...

his 60 foot is that of a 14.50 car, yet his MPH is that of a 13.50 car.

I still would like to see the slip or atleast post his incremental times, I guess I can go dig them up from when he originally posted them

then I can compare then to JP's incrementals and split times versus my incrementals and split times.

Thanks JP!
