Went out to Houston Raceway Park for the first TNT session for 2008.
Weather was great
Baro 30.1
Humidity 30%
Temp 64 which fell to 47 before the end of the night.
I had one hour cool down between runs.
I haven't changed anything in the car except some minor changes in the tune.
I changed the shift points a very little, and pulled a little more fuel out of the tune.
Since I am in need of new rear tires I didn't really think I would be able to show an improvement in ET, but I went out there none the less.
First pass was an instant dissapointment, I spun on the hit and cut a paltry et due to the "spinnage".
60 - 2.34 (spun)
330 -6.27
1/8 -9.42@78.66MPH
1000 - 12.13
1/4 - 14.43 @98.10MPH
Second pass one hour later
Since I had spun with 35 lbs in the rear tires I dropped it to 33 to see if there was "any improvement"
60 - 2.202(lightly spun)
330 -6.133
1/8 -9.294 @78.43MPH
1000-12.008
1/4 - 14.30@98.17
Since taking 2 lbs out of the rears apparently helped, I decided to take 3 more lbs out to see if I could improve any further.
I dropped the rears down to 30 PSI and waited for my hour cool down.
60-2.13 (no spin)
330-6.036
1/8-9.18@78.70
1000-11.894
1/4 - 14.18 @98.33
I made these runs with a full tank of gas, a full sized spare and my toolbox in the trunk. (roughly 100lbs of crap) since I went alone and the place was packed I didn't have any place to "dump my trunk".
I dont know if the additional weight HELPED my aging street tire HOOK or if I would have continued to have traction issues had I removed that 100lbs from the rear of the car.
I have been running my Beltronics FX-1 Peformance meter and comparing it to my timeslips. I have had good luck getting the Gmeter to accurately match my timeslips.
So far it's been fairly accurate
For instance compared to my first run GM=Gmeter TS=Timeslip
GM = a 2.35 60' TS said 60' 2.34 (.01 error)
GM = a 6.25 330' TS said 330' 6.27(.02 error)
GM = a 9.40 1/8th TS said 9.42 (.02 error)
GM =12.12 1000' TS said 12.13 (.01 error)
GM =14.40 1/4 TS said 14.43 (.03 error)
My previous outing to the track the Gmeter said I made
191HP average with a 248HP peak at 82 MPH
the 14.43 run the Gmeter said I made
193HP average with a 244HP peak at 52MPH (1-2 shift is right at 52MPH so this is a false spike caused by the 1-2 shift)...more on that later...keep reading.
My second run:
GM=2.20 60' TS=2.202 (.002 error)
GM=6.15 330' TS=6.133 (.017 error)
GM=9.32 1/8 TS=9.294 (.026 error)
GM=12.08 1000' TS=12.008 (.072 error)
GM=14.43 1/4 TS=14.30 (.13 error)
HP measured
185HP average with a 235 peak at 52 MPH (again 1-2 shift caused a false spike)
Third run:
GM=2.12 60' TS=2.139 (.019 error)
GM=6.00 330' TS=6.036 (.036 error)
GM=9.15 1/8 TS=9.187 (.0187 error)
GM=11.82 1000' TS=11.894 (.074 error)
GM=14.12 1/4 TS=14.18 (.06 error)
HP measured
196 average with a 250HP peak at "84"MPH!
This says the car "pulled harder" at 84MPH than it did on the 1-2 shift that caused the previous "false spikes at 54"!
So overall by pulling a little more fuel out of the PCM my HP went from
191 avg to 196 avg (5HP average increase)
248 peak to 250 peak (2HP average increase)
Overall I am very pleased.
I knocked off a little from my previous best, car is really "hauling the mail" on the big end!
I used my dyno sheet to calibrate the Gmeter initially to get me into the ballpark
Then after roughly 200 passes I "fudged" the roll out numbers until I got the Gmeter to be "very close" to what the timeslips said.
While this isn't "scientific" by anymeans, I now have the Gmeter pretty accurately calibrated to reflect real world numbers.
These Beltronics Gmeters are very cheap and easy to set up..with a little bit of trial and error and some comparative runs at the track they can be adjusted to reflect very close to what your actual ET is.
I've been using it on the street to "judge" if my calibration changes are having a positive or a negative affect on performance.
SO FAR, I'm pleased!
JP... my third run is a new best for me, if your still reading this far down this novel.. can you update the "quickest list".
new et 14.18@98.33
not enough to "move me up a spot" but..it is my new best!
