Forum Focus

Hello,
I like this forum, because the focus is on newer Lincolns. I wonder why so much emphasis on the Mark VIII. Dont get me wrong, the Mk VIII is a gorgeous car. But there are also Town Cars and Continentals. They seem to be somewhat overshadowed.
:)

This forum started off as a mark VIII only forum hence the overwhelming focus on the mark VIII. 5 years ago other lincoln models were annexed but never really developed such a strong following as the Mark VIIIs on here.

Your question about the LOD is a very good one!! We do NOT have a history forum to show why we are so Mark VIII oriented!!! I will bring that very subject up to the membership and see if someone would be willing to write up a documentary about our history and why we are so into the Mark VIII. Long story short, the original name was mark8.org (markviii.org). I will leave the rest of the history for whoever takes it upon themselves to write the story.

Its hard to advertise to people that don't use the internet for researching/fixing their cars, i.e. old people usually drive the TC's and Continentals and old people aren't necessarily computer/internet literate. Not descriminating, just pointing out the obvious. :D

Well, actually, the original founder of the LOD was in a car club for his T-bird (a goldetop or something IIRC) and was disappointed that when he bought his Mark VIII there were no clubs. So he started the club as a club for Mark VIII's, and eventually all Lincolns were included, as noted above.

Actually, a lot of us started out with Mustangs or T-birds, moved to Mark VIII's, and now quite a few have other Lincoln vehicles. Me, I love the older Lincolns, actually.

I mean let us "keep it real" ( in the common street vernacular). I was 15 in 1993 when the Mark VIII was unleashed. Even though having been raised in a FoMoCo loyalist household I was strictly interested in Mustangs at the time, I appreciated the Mark VIII for what it was. It represented cutting edge technology, wrapped in a sleek and sophisticated package, that one had to be totally Anti - American (vehicle - wise) not to appreciate. When the Gen II's came out, I was stunned by the amazingly good looks, high tech interior, and overall quality package that Lincoln was offering. (sure, hindsight is 20\20 when considering blend doors, air ride et al.) I knew when I went to the L/M dealership (that my family has dealt with for over 50 years) and made our salesman let me have a test drive (even though he knew full well that there was no way I could buy the car) that I would one day have one. Fast forward 11 years, and that feeling is still with me! The Mark VIII evokes a passion, a joie de vivre, that no car has ever stirred in me from that time to this. I think that even though ages and income levels may vary, that the Mark VIII embodies something to which we all aspire. Chiseled strong looks. power, a panache that is absent from the cookie - cutter cars one can buy today. I still (even with an IVY LEAGUE education) could most likely not afford to buy a Mark were it offered new today. However, luckily for me, that really doesn't matter! Having a new car, or even a 10 year old one (that I can afford to pour tons of money into to make even better:p) doesn't define me! My choice of car is something that speaks volumes to everyone who sees me all day long as I drive to and fro. My beautiful 98' LSC, after which I have pined and aspired for so long, is finally mine! The jelly - bean cars that I could afford to buy today ( were I even to condescend to consider a non - FORD product:eek:) do nothing for that inner Je ne sais quoi that the Mark so assuredly strokes each time I start her ignition. This is why this forum is so Mark - Centric. The Town Cars, the Continentals, the LS'S, while totally respectable in their own right, do not assuage the soul as the Mark does! The question should not be " Why do we devote so much time to the Mark?", but "Why would we waste our time with anything less?" Do not get me wrong, I would do anything at all for a complete stranger about whom all I knew was that he / she drove a FORD product. What I am trying to express, within the limitations of our humble English language, is that the Mark is one of those especially unique areas of common interest around which affinity and brotherhood can flourish. Can we in good conscience ask for more than that?

If the Lincolns had anywhere near even 1/10th of the problems N* Cadillac owners had this forum would busy as all hell. The lack of popularity in the forums is actually a sign that Lincolns are well built. Most of the time you go to a forum cause your car is messed up.

This is true! Or you're old and don't have anything better to do.....bwahahaha, had to throw that in there! :D
