Found a 98 Collectors - $1350

I just found a 1998 Mark VIII Collectors edition for sale near me for $1350. All I know about it is that it is "white", 201k miles and needs some repairs.

For those of you that do not know, I just bought a 1996 for $1650 because it was a decent buy. I've always liked the GEN 2 better but I couldn't pass on this 96. It was a Lincoln in need and I wanted to give it the love it deserved.

So my question is, should I look into this 98? It might be much closer to the actual Mark VIII I've always wanted. I really don't have the space or the money to fix up both, just one.

The mileage really isn't much of a concern for me as I had a 96 Cougar that is still going strong around 220k (although it was very well taken care of).

So what would you guys do if you were in my position?

a real collector edition for 1350 i'd tend to think its in need of SERIOUS repairs, that or the owner has no idea what it is. just mke sure its a true collector edition. if it is, and it can be driven, i would buy it, the steering wheel and shifter handle are worth a grand all by themselves!

I haven't seen the car in person so I have no idea what repairs it might need or what overall condition the car is in. I can go check in out on Wednesday assuming the seller can too and I'll update you all then.

Oh, and how can I tell if it is a "true collectors edition"? I know it was supposed to say that on the doors but I hear it rubs off easy.

What are the other clues?

A CE has the two toned seats, and the wood on the steering wheel and shifter. Not sure what else separates it. I'm not sure if a VIN check identifies them. Ask for the silver ingots that came with the car when new. ;)

The wood is actually a lot more shiny than a regular Mark VIII. It also has emblems on the doors that specify collectors edition. Should pop up on vin.

It will still say "collectors Edition" on the outside of both front doors. It is the gold aplique on the wood trim on the inside of the doors that rubs off.

With over 200k miles I doubt it has many parts that would be in good enough shape to sell for those prices...

you never know max, my 97 was pushing 200k and i sold every piece of it, if it is taken care of, those parts could still be nice, even my driver seat skins sold, not a rip in them. it all depends on who owned it and how they cared for it. i guess we'll find out tomorrow!!!

Yeah cars with over 200k can still be in good shape. I sold my Cougar with 212k on it and it still looked damn good. Looked better then some Cougars with less then 100k on them. I'll snap some pictures when I go look. If I don't buy it maybe someone else on the board will.

If you don't buy this mark viii can you give me the contact information to the person who is selling this, i am interested in buying it.

Must of waited to long to call. I don't see it online anymore and I didn't write down the phone number.

I saw it in the for sale in the Kansas City Star on 11/5. Those listing also show up on cars.com but it's not there anymore. :( Anyone got a KC star from Monday? I'm too lazy to go the library.
