Fram Oil Filters

I just bought a Fram 6X filter for my Lincoln because it was fairly priced and it filters 99.9 percent on one pass, but $6 less than a Mobil 1 filter. Do you think these new Frams are a lot better designed than the regular orange ones? I read back in the day that they were not the greatest filters.

Good question!

My local Autozone (yeah I know ) has a special on Castrol oil, and to get the special I have to get the free Fram oil filter.

I've got 3 new Fram filters in the garage.

I'm a little afraid to use them. I've seen photos of them cut in half compared to a Motorcraft filter. The Frams looked pretty cheap (even free).

I'll try to find someone with a band saw and cut one of them open.

+1

I prefer Wix Black filters and or Motorcaft. I would be very hesitant to use any fram oil filter. Just my 2 cents.

My last oil change i used a 3x fram for the first time in years..Never had a prob with them in the past..I love my $15 walmart oil changes. My last 3 cars don't seem to mind them either.

The thing I'm most concerned with in a filter is whether it has a proper anti-drainback valve. Do we have a definitive list of filter brands that do? Or is that pretty much standard these days?

My problem is that, living in an apartment, I can't change my oil myself so I end up having to go to a Jiffy-Lube or whatever. I usually bring in my own Motorcraft filter and have them install that, and they have no problem with it. But last time I went I didn't have one with me and they installed some no-name piece of crap. And didn't properly tighten it.

Here is the mack daddy of oil filters for our cars. There are a bunch of comparisons out on the web, and from what I see, this filter does a better job in filtering and flow than the others I have read about. This might seem to be overkill, but I personally have a substantial investment in my engine and blower, and this filter brings a little piece of mind to me. Since the blower uses engine oil to lubricate itself, I feel I need to use the best stuff I can find to keep the thing from burning up in the Georgia heat :)

"Heavy-gauge base and canister for higher burst strength and impulse fatigue resistance "

Is this for a car engine or a starship?

The best filter for the money is the motorcraft FL-820s which you can buy at China-mart for $3.49. I am going to stock up on those again.
I have exclusively used them in my crown vic and my mark viiis,

NO engine failures so far.

Crown Vic is at 240k and i change the oil in it every 10k miles (synthetic)

lol People have told me that my car sounds like a jet going down the road. So I guess this is the filter for me :)

I agree. Motorcraft filters are great.

If you shop around, you can buy the Ford Racing filter for the same price as a Mobil 1 filter - around 10-15 bucks.

Purolator PureONE best filtration. It is not an extended range filter and since I dump the filter every other change it works well for me. I actually use some hard drive magnets on my oil filter too.

... recycle old computor hard drives by ripping them apart. They have very strong magnets kind kidney bean shaped. I slap them on the side of the filter... can't hurt might help.
