The plankton eating grill is starting to peel it's fake chrome paint. How easy is it to remove so that I can get it painted?

No easy at all -the whole front bumper cover has to come off - and then once its off you can remove the grill.

Don't know how difficult it is on a second gen, but it took me all of 30 minutes to take the entire front end off of my first gen. I have a CD that should detail it. I will take a look and try to post some directions for you if I can find them.

The top bolts are easy to get at from under the hood. When I removed my bumper, the grille came with it. I recall the bottom bolts being tough to get at even with the bumper off but they may be accessible by removing the lower valance cover under the bumper. If I recall a long shaft phillips screw driver may reach them up through one of the air slots in the bumper. I'm thinking the screws will be hard to see but its worth a try to keep from removing the bumper.
The only major problem with removing the whole bumper on a 2nd gen is there are 3 permanent type blind fasteners at each top rear-most corner under the light housing. These must be cut off to remove. The exact fasteners can be bought at the Ford dealer but you need a special rivet type tool to install them. I finally located some plastic push-in type retainers that I used which aren;t as secure as the rivets but holds well enough.
